Re: USCHO Music Thread: We All Have A Crush On Shirley Manson

That line predates the Goth Kids by a good decade (edit: 5 years), it was in because Trey and Matt both really love that album.

???

We had Goth kids in my high school in 1981. I don't remember what we called them but it was the same deal: dress all black, depression, candles, Sartre, very very white.

Bela Lugosi's Dead was released in 1982.

The Goth Kids characters didn’t appear on the show until 2003, the episode the line “Disintegration is the best album ever!” was in 1998.

The line came about because a) Matt and Trey were big fans of The Cure and b) Robert Smith was a guest voice on that episode.

Everyone kneels at the altar for Disintegration, my personal fave is still Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me.

Plenty of their fans would rate KMKMKM > Disintegration. Head on the Door is my personal favorite.

OK, you mean the goth kids in the show. I'm talking about goth kids in the universe.

The joke about "Disintegration is the greatest album ever" was being made about Cure fans starting a few months after it was released. It's one of those Glandularly Worshiped Albums* like Pet Sounds, Abbey Road, and Highway 61 Revisited.

It's just an album, people.

* The operational definition is: albums which probably are indeed great but which the cult members lose all perspective and declare to be The Greatest Experience of Their Life Including the Birth of Their Kids.

1. Pet Sounds
2. Highway 61 Revisited
3. The Dark Side of the Moon
4. Abbey Road
5. Thriller
6. Nevermind
7. Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs
8. Marquee Moon
9. Unknown Pleasures
10. The Velvet Underground

Special Achievement Award: Trout Mask Replica
