It took me years to realize the genius of The Replacements. I wish i’d been aware enough in high school to have gone out and see them perform... i’d seen Soul Asylum and Bob Mould early but ****. Anyway, solo, Paul is still a genius songwriter imo.

I was lucky in that regard. A friend turned me onto them around the time of "Sorry Ma..." and "Stink" and was able to see them a few times during all ages shows, and a few times using my brother's ID. :)

Your weekly reminder:

Phil Collins.

That is all.

Whoa! You saw some great shows then.

I just watched a clip of them playing 7th Street Entry that was incredible.

I got into them late, after Let It Be was released, and I picked up that and Hootenanny at the same time. First time I was able to see them was during the tour for Tim, and then six more times after that, including one of the reunion shows from a while back now.

Also lucky to have seen Westerberg three times, the two best when he did an in-store appearance at the Tower Records in Boston, and then again during a solo show he played at the Somerville Theater. Maybe not from a technical standpoint, but he's a surprisingly good guitar player, using a sort of lead/rhythm hybrid during his solo appearances that works very well on his songs.

Today, I decided to play "Valleyheart" by She Wants Revenge. First, it's like being with an old friend. Second, with today being my first class of the new quarter for grad school, I think "Take The World" and "Suck It Up" are appropriate songs at a time like this.

Just ordered 2pacalypse Now!, new Pearl Jam and White Trash Heroes by Archers of Loaf on vinyl. It’s going to be a great week!

Pulled up The Cure on Spotify.

"Disintegration is the best album ever!"

It is a really great album. I don't know how familiar you are with The Cure, but it's considered "Part II" of an album trilogy that includes: Pornography, Disintegration, and Bloodflowers. They performed all 3 in succession live a dozen years ago or so and the DVD set gets regular play for me.
