I know others watch Beato and have likely seen this already, but this really is one of my favorite.

“This is pop music. This is what it used to be.”

I agree with the top comment. The best of Beato is when he takes a song I would never have thought of and shows how and why it is excellent. You can be catchy and also good. That is pop music.

Thank you so much for linking to this.

I am working my way through his whole list now, though.

This is how knowledge spreads.

I have high hopes for a group called "Chicano Batman."

Not sure why this popped into my head, but hope you do a deep dive on:

-Wilco
-Trip Shakespeare

I can't explain it but I think if you go into both you'll be happy you did. Cheers.

If you want a few more and like the early 2000s fad of symphony orchestra with metal check out Lacuna Coil and Nightwish. The latter being more operatic.

Bands like that bring me right back to early college. :^D

Went down an Al Green rabbit hole earlier today, and then hit up a classic blues list on Spotify. Some of the artists that came up were Robert Johnson, Ma Rainey, Etta James, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Muddy, Freddie King, BB, Howlin’ Wolf, Big Mama Thornton, etc. Not a bad listening session.

Add Son House, Bessie Smith, Tampa Red, Big Bill Broonzy, Ruth Etting, and my favorite, Annette Hanshaw ("That's all!").

The 1920s were one of the greatest decades in American popular music.

Today's song-in-the-head is Cover of Rolling Stone. No idea where that came from, but I'm working in the shop and having fun with it.

Not a real sophisticated taste in music, obviously.

When I was 4 or 5, my brother that’s my mom a copy of Dr. Hook Revisited on cassette. She played that cassette repeatedly during our trip from home to Pittsburgh (annual thing due to family). It’s one of those great memories of seeing my mom just having fun, seat dancing to that album, singing along, while driving.

I ended up getting a copy some years ago, a bit of fun nostalgia for someone too young to experience their stuff when it was new. Also, a bit of trivia for those who won’t care, Shel Silverstein wrote a number of their biggest songs.
