USCHO Cooks: Are you our Top Chef?

It is to starry-eyed Ma & Pa Kettle on their first-ever and likely only trip to NYC, but let's be honest - they're eating in Times Square and there's nothing worth eating or seeing there anyway.

Times Square isn't New York. TBH, nowhere tourists go is New York except for taking the subway, and even then it isn't really New York unless they get on the IND Rockaway Line by mistake cause, yeah, that is New York and peepaw won't be coming back.

This is barely related to the above but I'm reminded of Bill Burr's bit about having to take the subway well past streets he's comfortable with just to get some tail.

Tried Beyond Meat patties this week. Seasoned them well and they were enjoyable. That said, I'm not going to buy them often because it's like $9 for two patties.

Yeah, they've got promise. But not for the price. Which is fine. LEDs used to be expensive. Now they're relatively cheap. Once the price comes down, my wife and I would be interested.

I tbink I had some impossible meatballs on my flight to Scotland. They were fucking fantastic.

Speaking of sausage. My wife got me a very nice meat grinder for Christmas. As soon as I can find some natural casings around town, I'm having a sausage party.

Went all over the east metro trying to find chorizo. Ended up going to Jerry's for the first time ever. I'm impressed. It's like all the things Hy-Vee does well (cheese counter, meat counter, bakery) and the brands I like at cub (like, actual brands) and their produce section is amazing. As good as the best cubs I've been to.

Hy-Vee doesn't even sell bunches of carrots anymore. Like, you have to buy the 2 lb or 5 lb bag of carrots now.

Making my (apparently) famous cheesecake carrot cake. No one can ever pick this time of year. Especially me. So last year I said I'm going to make both. Every recipe out there looked like hot fuckin garbage. So I developed my own recipe. (Ok, I ended up stealing a cream cheese frosting recipe but everything else is mine.). I think the carrot cake is on like rev 4 or 5 and the cheesecake is on rev 2 or 3? Hard to screw up cheesecake that gets put between two layers of carrot cake.

Turned out pretty spectacular last year and my sister in law asked for it for her birthday.

Can't wait.
