USCHO Cooks: Are you our Top Chef?

Made Marc Murphy's boeuf bourguignon last night. God dam that is a good recipe.

If I were condemned to a single piece of cookware, I think it would absolutely be an enameled cast iron pot. It's like a stargate directly to god's dinner plate

I don't know if it still holds up, but Patrick's in Edina had an excellent bb back in the day. My wife was the manager up until we moved here.

My wife left for Bangkok a week ago and since I've made an excellent pot of chili (1/3 sirloin, 1/3 chorizo, 1/3 brisket) including using bouillon for the first time and it kills. I also made a stir-fried cumin beef which might be my favorite non-Thai dish at the moment. A newly opened Chinese restaurant has the best version I've ever had and inspired me to give it a shot.

I’m learning to like it too, although I mix in frozen raspberries. I wanted another way to get protein and not overload on carbs, it’s a decent option.

I’ll get a quart of Chobani’s Greek with the no-sugar vanilla, and then add some mixed berries over night to let the thawing juices release. I’ll add a small amount of granola for some crunch.

I like Oikos Pro. Tastes good, high protein, low sugar, and doesn't smell like a_ss.

Any of the flavors are good, preference is triple berry and peach.

Christmas Eve was an off night for us this year. So we celebrated by making all of our cookies and had Tyler Florence's beef stroganoff.

The stroganoff is really, really good. One of my favorite comfort recipes. Technically this was my birthday dinner since we didn't get to really celebrate our usual way with a special dinner. This time we added roasted broccoli to the plate and it both elevated and lightened the dish. Tremendous dish.

For cookies this year we did:
Chocolate-covered cherry cookies
Alton Brown's ginger cookies (chewy)
Hot cocoa cookies
Decorated sugar cookies
Spritz

All repeats. we wanted to do the cranberry orange spirals we've done in the past but didn't have time or inclination this year.

The sourdough we made to bring to dinner tomorrow was a complete dud. Never really rose. Our starter was just not very productive. Probably didn't have enough cycles to revive it yet.

We're trying one more go with an overnight proof. Otherwise we're coming empty handed other than cookies. Which no one seems to eat in my family.

I cut myself with a bread lame. That was incredibly dumb.

ow.

I made 2177 cookies, 7 coffee braid breads, 2 coffee rings and 12 qts of soup.
Pepparkakor, sugar, coconut, lace and chocolate treasures for cookies. left out 4 kinds. Ran out of time.

This season has been challenging to say the least.

Celebrated our last Christmases yesterday. Now to deal with the leftovers.

Tonight going to make a deconstructed butternut squash lasagna using pasta instead of lasagna noodles hoping that will streamline the cooking. Going to toss everything with pasta, poi=ur sauce over the top and away we go.

JESUS! That's a lot. Congrats and you deserve a rest.

It was. I didn't even make what I usually do. FIL les was critically ill and then resurrected (almost literally). The outlaws came a week after Thanksgiving and FIL wanted a traditional Christmas when they came. I did 3 weeks of work in about 6 days and then we had to tote it all to his house because he wasn't mobile. (SIL is a trained chef- talk about pressure!!)

Had to start again for the real season-my family, his dad again- because he needs stuff on the actual day, the rest of his family. I usually make stuff ahead, freeze it and then pull it out little by little. None of that this time. All real time. Left out 4-5 types of cookies, made half the bread I usually do, left out some staples that usually are on the dinner table.

Mr les told me I should 'relax' and cut back. His idea of cutting back didn't mean leaving anything out for his Dad. He didn't figure out I had cut back a bunch. He is still alive only because I was too exhausted to do him in.

This past weekend was the last hurrah. Brunch with 4 batches of Swedish pancakes, 2 lb bacon etc. Someone got sick last minute so the other one showed up 45 min late for the meal. They are alive too. I am not sure why.

You cannot make this stuff up. I am a domestic diva
