Re: USCHO Cooks: Allez Cuisine!

With the freezing temperatures outside the past couple days, today was the perfect day to make chili for dinner :)

Best part of making chili? The left-overs :)

One of the few foods that gets better with age.

Our 2011 is going to be low fat/low cholesterol/low sodium thanks to one gall bladderless HuskyNation and one melmac who's been ordered onto a cardiac diet due to a DVT, a double PE, and an Abby Normal EKG. We're special...

Sucks that you have to go low-fat, low cholesterol, low-fun, but if you must, I have some recommendations for you:

Re: USCHO Cooks: Allez Cuisine!

I just realized the awesomeness of slow cookers: Even though I am sitting at my office, I am also cooking dinner right now!

Re: USCHO Cooks: Allez Cuisine!

So, now that I finally bought a slow cooker, I'm going to do this tomorrow:

OK, yeah, that was AWESOME. If anyone has good slow cooker recipes, I am officially on the bandwagon, so pass them along.

On a different note, has anyone ever made adobo? I just read this New York Times article that made me want to try my hand at it, but the "recipe" they give at the end (which gives ingredients but no real quantities) doesn't provide much guidance at all, even bearing in mind the point of the article is that everybody has their own recipe.

Re: USCHO Cooks: Allez Cuisine!

I have goulash in the slow cooker right now; it smells wonderful. Can't wait to melt some butter over egg noodles and serve it up.

Re: USCHO Cooks: Allez Cuisine!

Made hot and sour soup and spicy black bean soup with lime - both were good. But now I have leftover tofu and no clue what to do with it.

Made Dulce de Leche Brownies for the holidays - I give them an A++++++, especially when warm.

Looking forward to getting the New England Soup Factory cookbook. Never been there, but I needed some soup inspiration.

Re: USCHO Cooks: Allez Cuisine!

Goulash was a hit. However, next time I need to add more butter to the egg noodles; one tbsp does not cover them adequately.

Re: USCHO Cooks: Allez Cuisine!

Tried making beet chips again, and failed again. At this point, I either need a dehydrator or learn the art of deep-frying, because they're not coming out the way I want them to.

Re: USCHO Cooks: Allez Cuisine!

With the cow safely in the freezer, a meat slicer on order, I'm looking for suggestions on a moderately priced food dehydrator so I can make the hell out of some jerky. Suggestions?

Re: USCHO Cooks: Allez Cuisine!

Anyone know of where to find recipes from the Lake Traverse Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux tribe or from the Sioux? Lil's youth group is making a lunch at church that they are going to try to serve food from the region. (they are going on a mission trip there this summer)

an easy one - but tasty:

BBQ Beef - Serves 8

3 lb rump or sirloin tip roast, cut into cubes
1 can cream of celery soup (or cream of whatever)
1 package dry onion soup mix
Any type of barbecue sauce

Mix together meat, soup and onion mix and put in slow cooker on low for 8-10 hours. After cooking, mash meat and mix with ½ c of BBQ sauce.

Good on sandwiches or over mashed potatoes.

Made these over the weekend. They were AMAZING. We thought they were better the second day :)

Made boeuf bourguignon for dinner last night. Julia Child's recipe, of course. OM NOM NOM. Having daydreams about the leftovers today...

Re: USCHO Cooks: Allez Cuisine!

Made unstuffed cabbage tonight. Basically cabbage rolls without the work of rolling them up. It turned out OK, but I was expecting the bulgur (used in place of white rice) to be a more substantial portion of the dish.
