You guys are making me want a food processor. I SO do not have room for a food processor. :p

I had to move out of my first apartment because I got a stand mixer for Christmas one year. No room to store it - had to keep it on the kitchen table (well, that and they were building a condo in my parking lot) :)

In case anyone else is looking at processors - this article from Cooks Illustrated was helpful. One thing I don't like about mine is the relatively narrow feed tube (I couldn't tell you right now what brand it is, either). Not being able to put it in the dishwasher would be an absolute deal breaker for me. I guess the two bowls would be handy if you need it for two different things in the same recipe.

This is probably our next purchase...and we still haven't figured out where to store our giant-*** slow cooker. :o

Re: USCHO Cooks: Allez Cuisine!

I can't comprehend not having room for stuff, I guess that is why I had to buy a house. I need space. I have 4-5 cupboards in my kitchen that are completely empty right now because I don't have enough stuff to fill them, and I have a decent amount of cooking equipment.

Re: USCHO Cooks: Allez Cuisine!

I have a wand blender (or what ever they are called) that blends and has an attachment 'bowl' with a chopping blade. Fairly small. Works like a charm for most of what I do. Doesn't grate or slice but the other functions make it indispensable in the kitchen.

Immersion blender ;)

On top of my microwave, which is on top of my refrigerator. (Not sure how well that'd work for you unless you wanted to go get a stepladder whenever you wanted to use it though. :p)

I, on the other hand, chose not to live in the middle of nowhere. Priorities, I guess. :p

I'm going to be in the same situation.

On the contrary, it's about 20-30 minutes from Minneapolis. Going to a hockey game, I can get from my house and park at the U in 20 minutes or less.

They're awesome. We have 2 (we're getting rid of one). The one I got last year for Christmas has a bowl/chopper attachment, whisk attachment, and blender attachment. :)

:p I already have to use the stepladder in my kitchen occasionally (and almost everyday at the house I work in). We have an IKEA bookshelf in the kitchen that is serving as a pantry. I'm hoping to move stuff around on there to put the slow cooker.

Re: USCHO Cooks: Allez Cuisine!

I'm looking at a recipe for panna cotta, and it says to spoon it into ramekins. Given that I don't have any, and can't justify the expense at this time, can I just spoon it into demitasse cups and serve?

Right. OK, so you're not IN the middle of nowhere, you're 20-30 minutes FROM the middle of nowhere. Close enough. :p

No. Your demitasse cups will literally explode if you put panna cotta in them.

I'm probably about 35 minutes from downtown/campus, so thats not too bad, especially considering I get to have a yard, some woods, bonfires in the backyard, ride my 4-wheeler around the neighborhood...

Re: USCHO Cooks: Allez Cuisine!

Alright; I'll either use regular coffee cups or will buy a set of ramekins when I go shopping later today.
You should be able to get ramekins for fairly cheap. I have 2 sets of 4 that I got (and haven't used yet) that I got for about 5$ each at the grocery store. I would look at your local grocery or maybe a big box store (Target/Walmart/etc).

Amen to that. I could never live in the urban jungle. Pass x 1,000. I hate even driving down to Minneapolis.

You do KNOW I was being sarcastic there, right? :o
Now that I think of it, it's a good thing I asked. Not only am I making panna cotta today, I'm also going to start making things like baked eggs, individual souffles, chicken pot pies, etc.

As for tonight's meal, it'll be smothered pork chops with mashed turnips and panna cotta with blueberry coulis for dessert. First dessert I've made for myself since May 2009.
