I like Boyle but i agree, at least know body got hurt in that whole deal. As far as liking Team Canada,, yeah not so much here. there fans make gophers fans look terrific, Hockey Canada hates USA hockey and NCAA hockey and feel they are entitled. If somehow USA beats Canada for the gold medal USA hockey still won't get hockey Canada's respect but it will start to put a dent in Hockey Canada and maybe cause some canadian kids to think about coming to the states to play college hockey.

Also a lot of people don't know this but one of the main reasons Brendan Smith of Wisconsin wasn't picked for the World Junior team last year was because Hockey Canada was already going to take Goloubef and they didn't want to take 2 college guys because it would reflect poorly on the hockey canada and the CHL.

Meh...it's the only hockey I can attend in person way out here in Idaho. College is much better, but I attend a couple of Steelhead games per year since I have no other options for live hockey.

Both Hockey Canada and USA Hockey select players to fill the role they need filled, and they select the player that they believe best fits that need, no matter where the player comes from. That said, when two pretty equal players are being considered for the same role, I am sure they'll pick the player from their preferred development system (CHL or NCAA respectively). You can't blame them for that - there are chemistry and coaching pieces underneath those decisions that make them more known quantities.

So in short, it's not always about the "best player" but the "right player". Smith likely wasn't turned down becuase they were already taking Golubef or because Smith was a college player - more likely they felt they had a better fit for that role in another player, and that player happened to be a CHL player.

For Hockey Canada, the CHL has two or three (or more) highy qualified guys for every WJT role they have, and a prospective NCAA player needs to be that much better than the CHL options to get selected.

2nd i didn't think the hit on boyle was dirty, maybe just the time and score of the game it was a little tasteless, had it happened while the game was close or earlier in the game i don't think it would have been that big of a deal. boyle's reaction however was very dirty...

This is almost painful to type, I...........I.......agree with you, clean hit on Boyle, very dangerous hit by Boyle. The refs should have tossed him. JMO

Wow. Just...wow.

The US blew that 3 goal prediction out of the water in the first half of the first period. I thought Kiprusoff was a good goalie. Then I thought Backstrom was, too. Apparently not today. Or at least not in the first 20 minutes.

This really is quite fun to watch, though.

I know 2 goals is not a reason to waste a timeout but when they happen as the result of terrible play in your own zone just 2 minutes into the game, I can't help but think that is a coaching blunder.

6-0 after one! Go USA!

Great job so far, the US has jumped on every mistake by the fins. 6 for 13 is a good shooting percentage in basketball, in hockey its almost unheard of.

Finish off the Fins and hopefully the US can carry this over to the gold medal game:D

They probably could have scored 10 with the way the Finns were playing, but other than a few power plays, they didn't really go after it in the offensive zone in the last 2 periods.

But really, who can blame them?:D

Am I the only one who hopes Canada wins tonight? I realize the U.S. would have an easier time with the Slovaks, but come on. Canada-U.S. for the gold, in Vancouver? Would be a phenomenal game.
