He passed out from the thinner on the ride home. Didn't even wake up when we hit that deer nor when I pulled the van over for 20 minutes... ;)

I seriously have never laughed so hard/been more hungover at the same time. Thank you...from the bottom of my dehydrated soul!

Great article. I sure hope Brooks is watching down on the boys tomorrow, it's going to be epic!

Re: US Olympic Hockey - Let's Stick It To The Canucks Again!

How is this bigger than 2002? US-Canada in the US in the shadow of 9/11 with the Canucks going for their first gold in 52 years?

Which is why it may be bigger. That and the fact that the Canadians are already standing on the top podium.

Re: US Olympic Hockey - Let's Stick It To The Canucks Again!

I honestly feel that Miller will have to be god like for us to have any chance of winning.

I really didn't want the U.S. to have to play Canada and I'm worried about the revenge factor on the minds of the Canadian players, considering the comments made by players like Kesler.

As much as I crave a U.S. victory, I don't see it happening. Hope to the hockey gods I'm dead wrong (and I encourage responses telling me how wrong I am for a morale boost).

Re: US Olympic Hockey - Let's Stick It To The Canucks Again!

Good luck with that. The Olympics have always been a monopoly.
The point isn't what the Olympic TV deals have done in the past. Its a monopoly because one network controls all the content and then distributes the content among its subsidiaries.

For example, it wouldn't be a monopoly if the Olympics were broken up into parcels & networks or cable broadcasters bid on the pieces. If ABC/ESPN won the rights the hockey, NBC the Opening Ceremonies, Lifetime the skating, Versus the bobsleding etc. that would avoid the Monopoly.

Clearly the sum of the pieces wouldn't be worth as much as the whole Olympic enchilada, so the Senator was just reminding NBC to keep their house in order.

Wouldn't it be up to the IOC to keep their house in order? And since the IOC is an International organization (it's right there in the name) what exactly is his jurisdiction?

The best thing the USA has going for them is their young legs and the fact that Canada may have better players, but are constrained from using them to their maximum potential.

Canada has seven skaters over 30 and this is going to be their 8th game in something like 12 days. All this coming after an NHL half season where games were crammed in to make room for the Olympic Break.

US will try to skate them out of the building and make this a contest of endurance and speed and less a contest about skill and puck handling.

The US hasn't been behind in any game. They'll need to stay out of the box and try score the first goal.

No matter what happens, it was a great Olympics for the USA and they have no pressure on them tomorrow. Just play loose and have fun.

All the pressure is squarely on Canada tomorrow. They are carrying the weight of a nation on their shoulders. The USA already beat them once and vastly exceeded expectations.

jnacc would pick Canada to win no matter what. If you put twenty squirrels in Canadian jerseys, jnacc would pick them to win.

Even if all the railcars and locomotives were made overseas, its still the railroad barons in the US that had the Monopoly in the 1920's. Its the distribution (NBC) not the manufactuer (IOC) that's causing the problems.

Yes, but if the IOC will only sell the train and not individual cars, what does the senator plan to do? Prevent any American network from bidding? That's a good idea.

For anyone who wants a little warm up, the NHL network is currently broadcasting the 2004 World Juniors championship game. :)
