US Olympic Hockey - Let's Stick It To The Canucks Again!

Re: US Olympic Hockey - Let's Stick It To The Canucks Again!

Am I the only one who hopes Canada wins tonight? I realize the U.S. would have an easier time with the Slovaks, but come on. Canada-U.S. for the gold, in Vancouver? Would be a phenomenal game.

Sure...it would be a game alright, but do you like our chances against them? Do you think we can beat them twice? possible but I'd rather face the Slovaks.

Re: US Olympic Hockey - Let's Stick It To The Canucks Again!

It's gotta be US v. Canada. Anything else would cheapen the medal in my feeling.

The only joy I'd get out of a US v. Slovakia game would be the NBC execs tearing their hair out about not getting what could be a good ratings haul out of the gold medal game.

I don't think it would cheapen the medal, just because the US has already beaten Canada. If they were in a different pool and got by, won the medal, without playing Canada at all, then I would agree with you.

I agree with this. But at the same time, it would be that much sweeter to beat those Canucks again and this time in the championship.

Re: US Olympic Hockey - Let's Stick It To The Canucks Again!

So I pledged my left nut for gold in the World Junior Championships but no one came to collect so I still have it.

My left nut for a win on Sunday! It'd be so so SO fricken' sweet to do it up there! Oh the HUMANITY! :D

As a footnote, my son's peewee team won the first game of a tourney tonight which means that they(we, as I am coach) either play at 2:30 or 4:00 on Sunday. :(

Your son has reached the age where he needs to learn the valuable life lesson of how to properly forfeit. :)

The little bastard scored two goals and had an assist in a 3-2 win.

I should have benched him after the first goal or had him in net.

He's from Wisconsin. He probably doesn't know how to read yet.:p

He passed out from the thinner on the ride home. Didn't even wake up when we hit that deer nor when I pulled the van over for 20 minutes... ;)

Ok, I might lose my uscho membership for saying this, but my daughter has figure skating practice at 4:00 on Sunday. (It's not all bad my other daughter plays hockey, and my 2 yr sons talks about nothing but hockey).

Anyway, I normally wouldn't care, I'd just DVR it and watch the end when I get home, but I'll be at a hockey rink with other parents that will probably be watching the game (and won't be able to not talk about it). I will probably just have to hide in a corner with headphones on and not talk to anyone.

Anyway...Who else will be putting "Miracle" in at 11:15, so it ends just before the gold medal game?

Re: US Olympic Hockey - Let's Stick It To The Canucks Again!

Whoops. US Senator not happy with NBC and their "Monopoly."

Clearly the IOC Olympics media contract is a monopoly going to the highest bidder.

Hockey may not have as many fans as other sports, but they are tenacious. :)

Wisconsin Sen. Herb Kohl on Friday sent a letter to Jeff Zucker, president and chief executive of NBC Universal, questioning "the practice of locking up certain content." He criticized NBC for demanding that users who want to stream live events and replays on NBCOlympics.com prove they subscribe to providers that have deals with NBC. Kohl, who chairs the antitrust subcommittee of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said NBC should allow users of different Internet providers the option of paying for the service. The network said it was "proud of our extensive coverage."

I agree. Beating Canada twice in the same Olympics, on Canadian ice, would be really sweet.

It would also be great to kind of avenge the women's loss. Getting 2 silver medals thanks to the hockey elitist Canadians would suck. Stick it to them boys!

Re: US Olympic Hockey - Let's Stick It To The Canucks Again!

Seriously, no one who wanted to see the game missed it. Doesn't NBC stream everything on USA and MSNBC/CNBC online? Regardless it was great to watch that game with no commercials.

For someone who mentioned ratings earlier it averaged 8.2 million people.

I didn't get to see it unless I wanted to pay $10 more per month to get the Dish Network package that has MSNBC. I passed on that.

Good luck with that. The Olympics have always been a monopoly. You think they'd be run any differently on CBS or ABC/ESPN? Instead of the USA/MS/CNBC we'd have the Games on the ESPN networks or whatever else CBS owns. If they were on Fox we'd get the Games on FX, FMC and FBN. You don't have FBN or ESPNU? Oh, that's a shame...upgrade your package and you will.

He's going to really love it in Sochi, when hockey is on at 4 in the morning.

If the Games were on the ABC/ESPN networks, they wouldn't even show the hockey games. Let's stick with NBC where they've shown every hockey game, even if Crosby or Ovechkin wasn't involved.

I'm perfectly happy with the coverage as I've seen every game live whether at home or streaming in my office.

Except of course for Sunday. They have Wifi in the arena that we play. I could stream it on the bench!
