US National Teams: U30s & Mrs. Potter, U22s, U18s Part II

Re: US National Teams: U30s & Mrs. Potter, U22s, U18s Part II

I think this article in today's Star Tribune answers the question I posed three days ago:

http://www.startribune.com/sports/gophers/274226701.html

I also wondered why Rachel hasn't been a part of any USA hockey activities the past few years. Sounds like she wants to finish up her senior year of hockey and school and move on with life. I will say she is quite good on tv/radio.

Looks like my daughter and I will be up in Biddeford for the 6.30 scrimmage on Friday. DC, will we see you there?

Re: US National Teams: U30s & Mrs. Potter, U22s, U18s Part II

No Jincy Dunne?

Maybe it's one thing for hockey players to miss class, since the profs are used to it, but another for a high schooler to do it? :/ (shot in the dark)

Really, though, the way the release is worded, I decided you can't read too much into who is and isn't on the list. It's all about getting the ladies coaching and putting people on prescribed paths. Presumably they already did that with someone like Dunne, who they had in camp with them for a year. They have known quantities in people like Vetter and Duggan and don't need them in this camp if they have injuries or other obligations.

Re: US National Teams: U30s & Mrs. Potter, U22s, U18s Part II

USA Hockey tweeted the line chart for the game earlier this evening:
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Here’s the line chart for the women's intrasquad scrimmage tonight at UNE (6:30pm ET) featuring 13 Olympians! <a href="http://t.co/QKVEJWnWby">pic.twitter.com/QKVEJWnWby</a></p>— USA Hockey (@usahockey) <a href="https://twitter.com/usahockey/status/510552195498901505">September 12, 2014</a></blockquote>

Final score was 4-2 to Team White. Team White's goals came from Pelkey, Trivigno, Knight and Bender; Team Blue's goals both came from Pankowski. Boyles let in all four of goals against Blue (but, being up first before the D had really gelled, faced a lot more shots). Rigsby and Schaus let in one each.

It was a pretty ragged game, especially in the first period. Not a lot of clean passing, most chances came from individual efforts or goal-mouth scrums. Things improved as the game went on and will presumably be better on Sunday. You have to assume that USA Hockey are looking for players who can click quickly with line-mates given that there's less than a week between the Frozen Four and the opening match against Canada in the Women's Worlds in Sweden next year (and at least two days of that will be lost to travel). Based on tonight it wasn't clear they've found those players. Maybe they should just take all the BC players and put them on a line together.

Best Fs on the ice, I thought, were Coyne, Pelkey and Pankowski. Whatever kept Coyne off the U22s clearly isn't permanent, she still has the explosive speed that no-one else has and kept throwing Blue into disarray. Pelkey and Pankowski both manufactured breakaways repeatedly and with better results than anyone else. Trivigno and Knight were also good at making chances and clicked together better than most of the other lines. (The last time I saw Trivigno and Knight on the ice together was at the Beantown, where they were on opposing teams and I'm pretty sure I saw Trivigno try to punch Knight's linemate Marie-Philip Poulin in the face... ah, sport).

On D, the obvious suspects (Marvin, Bellamy, Picard, Bozek) were solid and Milica McMillen, who I had seen live before only at the FF final this year, impressed as a stay-at-home defenseman with a great work ethic. M Lam didn't seem as dangerous as sometimes.

J Lam didn't seem to be dressed.

A lot of people didn't make as big an impression as I'd expected: Brandt, Cameranesi and Skarupa, who were great together in Calgary; Maddie Elia, Emily Janiga, Emily Field, Megan Keller, Paige Savage, Shiann Darkangelo, even Carpenter never got anything significant going. Steadman was her usual mix of brilliance and headslapping turnovers.

USA Hockey says: (http://u18womensworlds.usahockey.com/news_article/show/419232) It’s important to note that there are other players not attending camp for a variety of reasons yet they maintain their eligibility and will also be in the active player pool. So this isn't the complete selection pool for the Worlds team, though if Stack actually is retiring (which I heard from someone else while I was there) and if Chu is as well, it's not clear who other than Duggan is there on F or who other than potentially Schleper there might be on D.

Don't forget, Four Nations is in early November so there will be four games to evaluate the U30s prior to Worlds.

I think she wanted some time off. She was banged up after her last college season and I'm sure was more so after the Olympics. So maybe a meaningless set of scrimmages was an ideal time leading up to the grind of the college season. Plus she might've wanted some time for her personal life.

Very happy to hear she still has "it" though. Gonna make for a great season.

I think she wanted some time off. She was banged up after her last college season and I'm sure was more so after the Olympics.

Should have mentioned, she was getting pretty banged up on Friday as well. She seemed to get more physical attention than anyone else.

Also should have mentioned about the venue: it's a very nice place, modern, with comfortable banked seating down one side of the rink only and a food court with a good selection in the lobby. More importantly, there was a great turnout: there could easily have been 500 people there and the place felt full, which gave a great atmosphere for the game and for the public skate / autograph sessions later. (The team didn't skate, but they were around and chattable with).

Who wants to play the fantasy lines game for Four Nations? I'm going:

Carpenter-Knight-Pankowski
Brandt-Cameranesi-Skarupa
Decker-Coyne-D'Oench (This would be a very fun line to watch)
J Lam-Duggan-Trivigno (I think Dana may have played herself into a spot, and she would fit well on a very physical line; alternate selection here is Paige Savage)

D, in no particular pairings: Bellamy, Bozek, Picard, MLam, Marvin, McMillen.

Goalies: Rigsby (starter), Schaus, McLaughlin.

On an all Keller team you don't need Stecklein.

Curious that sheagle008 didn't include Keller in her fantasy lineup. That's messed up.
