US National Teams: U30s & Mrs. Potter, U22s, U18s Part II

Re: US National Teams: U30s & Mrs. Potter, U22s, U18s Part II

So far as I know Kessel is still playing for the Gophers this year.

Looking back through her Twitter feed, seems like she might have suffered a concussion at some point. Hopefully not too serious.

So not trying to be negative, just calling out the elephant in the room here.

BC has what 7 current players on the team...which is on par with the entire 13 national championship WCHA combined and dwarfs a MN team that is about 100 W 2 L 1 T in the last 3 seasons.

Is it:

BC is extremely top heavy and the lower half of its roster is really very bad?
BC will obliterate the hockey world this season?
BC has gotten quite a bit of favoritism with the obvious outcome of the detrement of the US team?

I'm just trying to understand as this is not a BC vs. UND PWR discussion...this roster is incredibly lopsided.

Another possibility is that BC has underperformed relative to the talent on its roster and USA Hockey believe that with different coaching they can unlock that potential. Not saying this is necessarily the case, just an option to consider.

It's certainly not the case that the lower half is very bad: Bizarri, Mangene and Wasylk were U18s and Leary has hands almost as good as Skarupa's. Since I've been following BC their most obvious failing hasn't been talent but a failure to concentrate in games they should win, especially road games -- last year, Providence, Syracuse, UNH (at home), Princeton; the year before, UVM to hand BU the regular season title and NU in the Hockey East tournament. That means I can't vote for them to obliterate the rest of the world this season. I think the right answer is a combination of your last suggestion and mine.

Megan Keller took her spot.

It appears that if your 5'7" or more you get an automatic in to USA Hockey. I'd love to see more hockey sense and D passes than a big D taking the puck up! There's something to be said about those dynamo little D's that act like the quarterback they should be!

I am sure that your daughter is a very good hockey player. I am sorry that she isn't just a little bit taller.

Try to imagine the pain of basketball parents.

Haha I have no skin in the game. Just a die hard fan that watched the US lose the gold medal because politics won over picking the best talent to form a winning team

That is by design, since there is no Pro league for women they will all have to eventually join the real world and get a job, the purpose of USA Hockey is not to develop hockey players, it is to prepare women for the business world IOW, talent, skill, etc. has a limited benefit, it can only get you so far, it’s not what you know, it’s who you know.
Too bad the Canadians think the Gold medal winner is the team that scores the most goals.

Well you certainly shouldn't be on this forum. Go back to the real world and let us enjoy our sports!

Where the best players chosen for the Olympic$? History has already partially answered that, this coming NC$$ season should shed further light on the answer.
Stone herself said they were not, see her quotes during the process. Secondly take a look at the criteria for which players would be selected, it is documented as part of the selection criteria that players would be chosen to develop hockey in the US. It is well known there is a quota system. So yes, you are correct, the best players are not chosen.
You also have to remember, U$A Hockey is a business, just like the Olympic$ and the NC$$. People will make decisions to protect their own self interest.

Welcome to the real world.

This team seemed to do okay not picking the best players.

Re: US National Teams: U30s & Mrs. Potter, U22s, U18s Part II

apparently the right players haven't been picked in 16 years for the women, and 34 for the men

So the assumption based on this statement is that if the right players were picked, the US would win gold guaranteed?
