Unrest in Egypt

Too early for stupidest post of the year?

Eh, not really stupidest post of the year, but diffently a contender for most ignorant post of the year. The Idiot clearly hasn't been paying attention to the news or even bother to have even read the thread here.

The Syrian regime gets a jump and offers concessions early. We can actually voice the courage of our convictions on this one, since that's Iran's puppet, not ours.
That, and they got to see now that trying to keep the population in check isnt working so well for the other middle east countries. Giving the people what they want might work out better for them, just that most of them are pretty corrupt and more than likely would have a few things that would put them in prison.

Priceless (and others) we're pretty correct in saying that the "new" regime would be like the old. Seems Al Jazeera has been exiled from Cairo.

Six Al Jazeera English journalists, who were briefly detained in Egypt, have been released, however; their camera equipment remains confiscated by the military.

The move comes a day after Al Jazeera was told to shut down its operations in the country and saw its signal to some parts of the Middle East cut.

Following the arrest of the journalists a spokesman of the channel said Al Jazeera will not be deterred; "If anything, our resolve to get the story has increased."

On Sunday, Al Jazeera expressed its "utter disappointment" with the blockage of its signal on Nilesat.

International press institutes have come out strongly against Egyptian authorities' suppression of the media, following the withdrawal of Al Jazeera's license in Egypt.

I'm shocked. My favorite was when the talking head from the government was on AJ (before they were pulled) and they asked him where the pro-Mubarak protesters were. He said that millions of Egyptians were showing their support for Mubarak by staying home. Right...that's how it works.

Re: Unrest in Egypt

I wouldn't be surprised if this quickly turns into a humanitarian disaster. How does food keep flowing if the city shuts down?

I have really liked/admired AJ's coverage. Having said that, I wonder if the English feed is the same as the Arabic one. I read somewhere that there's a bit of a moderate Fox News Sunday vs. 'not so moderate' FNC in the Arabic feed.

Even so, being exposed to the English (ie BBC) versions approach is probably healthy for its Arab channel.

Re: Unrest in Egypt

Get the foreigners out, shut down the Internet and clamp down again on cell phone networks...remove any witnesses. I have a very bad feeling about the million man march in Cairo tomorrow.

Somewhere, somehow, a satellite uplink truck needs to find it's way to cover this...
