Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

where's his NCAA National Championship? Oh, that's right, he went to UND.

Ya the goophers are just national championship winning machines aren't they. How many titles have they won in the last 30 years?

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

How did we not win a national championship in 2006 with this roster:

28 Bina, Robbie, D, Jr
4 Chorney, Taylor, D, Fr
16 Duncan, Ryan, F, Fr
21 Fabian, Erik, F, Jr
2 Finley, Joe, D, Fr
25 Foyt, Scott, D, Jr
6 Jones, Zach, D, Fr
17 Kaip, Rylan, C, So
10 Kozek, Andrew, F, Fr
34 Lamoureux, Jean-Philippe, G, So
22 Lee, Brian, D, Fr
14 Martens, Ryan, F, Fr
13 Marvin, Lee, F/D, Sr
8 Miller, Brad, F, Fr
7 Oshie, T.J., F, Fr
1 Parise, Jordan, G, Jr
24 Porter, Chris, F, Jr
19 Prpich, Mike, F, Sr
26 Radke, Kyle, D, So
27 Smaby, Matt, D, Jr
11 Spirko, Rastislav, F, So
18 Stafford, Drew, F, Jr
9 Toews, Jonathan, F, Fr
30 Walski, Aaron, G, Fr
20 Watkins, Matt, F, Fr
15 Zajac, Travis, F, So

This team was stacked.... But, one game and a shaky goaltender in that semifinal game, kind of evens the playing field.

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

Ask Jerry York. :(

I thought the 2007 UND team was better. I was more nervous before the 07 game vs. UND than 2006 for some reason. York certainly knows how to handle the Sioux.

It is something to look at that 2006 roster and not be amazed how good they were.

Geez, Happy, some great, great players never win titles in their respective sports. Surprised you would even use something like this.

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin have zero NCAA titles too, so they obviously aren't better than Toews since that is the measure of greatness.

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

Troll Alert!

After watching almost every Blackhawks games the past 3 years, I really feel fortunate to have seen Jonathon Toews play against the Badgers. I knew he was something special in college, but you never know how a player will adapt in the bigs.

I think he has a future.

Maybe the 10 freshmen could have been a factor.

Exactly. Starting 4 freshmen defensemen all year was rare. Also, Stafford was nursing a bad knee after a series w/ Duluth a few weeks prior to the Frozen Four. He was not 100%.

Gee, then I guess it's the coaches fault for not being able to win with the best talent.

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

Remember back in 2007 when we selfishly wanted Jonathan Toews to stick around for at least one more season at UND and some of us sort of felt sorry for him, knowing that he was headed to Chicago.

Re: Early Signings???

I'm sure a fat paycheck will make it less painful for Toews to play for the Chi(cken)Hawks

Even though Toews would make some serious cash for a 19 year old, he's also very competitive and I'm not sure all of that money would make up for being stuck with a perennial cellar-dweller with notoriously bad management. As a practical matter, I would not be surprised to see Toews back for another season.

Guess we can stop feeling sorry for him now.:p

Just amazed at how huge the Blackhawks bandwagon is right now. 2 Million fans turn up at the parade to see Captain Toews lift the Cup. Unbelievable!

Getting one season with him was great, getting a second season with him playing for the Sioux was a bonus. So I was content with being able to watch him play Sioux hockey for 2 years.

Toews and Kane really helped transform the Chicago Blackhawks back into being a competitive team. It was really cool and special to see a player like Toews come in and play for UND and then have immediate impact and success at the professional level.

For a professional hockey player it may be difficult to define success. And they say a picture is worth a thousand words, here is a picture that is worth far more than mere words.

I felt the same way when I got to watch Danny Heatley for two years. After his sophmore season I said he needed to go pro because he was a man among boys that year.

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

Watch for Toews on the cover of SI this week. It's a split cover - don't know what area he will appear in.

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

UND recruits Forbort, Nelson, and Gothberg were all invited to go to the WJC evaluation camp.

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

Brad confirmed that Brock Nelson will be joining the team this fall.
So that makes our incoming class:

Confirmed freshman class (so far) includes: D Forbort, D Simpson, F Rodwell and F Nelson.

Small group, but very talented.
