Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

Toews took home some serious hardware tonight! :) I wonder if the Cup will make a trip to REA this summer?

I vaguely remember Commodore coming around with it. I didn't get to see it when it came through. It was in some lecture hall in a science or math building I believe. Probably a bigger "homecoming" for Toews though.

{stand by, firestorm to follow}

In the last five years putting all this onto the resume:

- 2006 and 2007 World Junior Champion
- 2007 World Champion
- 2010 Olympic Champion, including top tournament forward
- 2010 Stanley Cup Champion (team captain) and Conn Smythe winner (playoff MVP)

Is Jonathan Toews the best forward on Earth today?

I can't think of another guy right now that I'd start a team with; not Crosby, not Ovechkin.

Are you kidding? Best forward on Earth today? LOL.

Make a case for someone else then.... opinions are like a holes, and you are like an opinion

Take your Fighting Sioux glasses off for a minute. You honestly think that Jonathan Toews is the best forward ON THE PLANET right now? Ovechkin is five times the player he is. Toews is good, but let's not get crazy here.

It depends on what you look for in a forward I guess. Toews is the best young leader, and really reminds me of a Steve Yzerman-type player. Ovechkin will probably put up numbers, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Toews name will appear on the cup quite a few more times than Ovechkin's.

Saying that, Toews was voted the Top Forward in the Olympics...an international event featuring the best players in the world. To say he is the best forward on the planet really isn't that much of a stretch.

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

While ovechkin may be more famous cause he's always scoring points. Toews is by far one of the best two-way forwards in NHL if not the best. And if I was starting a team I'd rather have a forward who can score and play superbly on the defensive side of things as well.

Toews is a very, very good player. I think if you polled every player on the NHL about the best forward, very few would pick Toews. I'd put Toews clearly behind Ovechkin and Crosby and put him in that Stamkos level of player (hardly a bad place to be).

Oh, and he just captained a team to the Stanley Cup.

If you were starting a new franchise, who else?

I'll bet you a lot more people would pick Toews today than 6 months ago.

Also, given that Toews has two fewer years in the league than both Ovechkin and Crosby, already has captained a cup winning team, and won the Conn Smythe Trophy, along with being named the Top Forward in the Olympics, I would place him alongside Ovechkin and Crosby as the very best forwards in the game.

I understand that you don't agree with this, but it also sounds that you don't even believe that Toews is in the discussion as the best. In my opinion he has to be on the list, and I think a majority of NHL players would agree with that.

You must be living in the past. Since the Olympics every player and every coach in the NHL wants him as a teammate.

Some people thought that Toews, as best forward in the Olympics, was a fluke. Then he goes and wins the Con Smythe award as best player in the playoffs. Seems more like a trend.

Maybe prior to 2010 Ovechkin and Crosby were considered better than Toews but for 2010 and beyond Toews is getting the nod.

where's his NCAA National Championship? Oh, that's right, he went to UND.

It's a good thing for the Gophers that DU and UW are experiencing heavy early departures...UMN might be able to finish with home ice this year! Would be a nice accomplishment for them! :p

How about that, between those three teams, they have 5 national championships in the last ten years, but UND has none. Too Bad.

And none of them have passed UND in total national titles.
Shocking!

 :)

Wasn't that was their goal 2 seasons ago? Have a feeling UND will win another NC before UMN gets home ice.
