Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

It was pretty much a foregone conclusion but good luck to Fienhage. He was really improving towards the end of this past season when he got to play, sucks to see him go but he is doing what is best for him to develop.

Herald article on the Fienhage signing:

Our d-corps is going to be very stacked next season.

That said, the following year it will get pretty bare with Genoway, Marto, and LaPoint all graduating and Blood a good candidate to go pro.
That just leaves Forbort, Simpson, MacWilliam, Mattson, and Gleason.

Reading Hak's quotes, it seems obvious that Fienhage probably would not get the amount of playing time he wanted with that stacked UND d-corps. As a third round pick, you can't blame him for seeking other options.

No doubt.
He probably wouldn't have worked into the lineup last year much if it weren't for the Genoway injury.
Hopefully he does well in the WHL!

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

Next fall...2011.
The article says that he is heading back to the BCHL this upcoming season.
Sounds like a solid recruit, he was the 2nd leading BCHL rookie scorer this past season, behind only DU recruit Beau Bennett.

It would appear as though my interpretation of the word "Next" might be slightly awry... :o

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

It may be a bit early but I think Fienhage to the WHL is a good move for him personally. Being a 3rd round draft pick and basically sitting his entire first year, and only getting real playing time when Genoway went down he certainly could have been frustrated. I thought he did a good job of stepping in in Genoway's absence, although not as much of an offensive threat but still a big, physical player. I thought early on he would be a similar player to perhaps Ben Blood, but it never came to be in my view. Best of luck to Corey as he continues his hockey career, same to Toews.

I'm cross-posting what I shared in the RMU thread because it pertains to you guys.

From the "for what it's worth" department.

One of the guys from The Pensblog got a quote from someone with connections who spoke on the condition of anonymity saying that RMU will get to play an outdoor game a day or two in advance of the Winter Classic against North Dakota.

Check out the tweets saying as much here and here.

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

An outdoor game against Robert Morris?
Interesting.

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

Looking into it further...if this game were played a few days before the Pens/Caps Winter Classic on Jan 1, 2011, the Sioux are already playing a game against UMD on Dec 30th (opening their new arena).

Then the Sioux play Robert Morris at REA on Jan 7th/8th.

I'd suspect that perhaps those dates could be juggled as it's possible that Heinz Field could have to be cleared out by the 7th/8th for Steelers football.

Of course, this could be a nothing rumor and just wishful thinking by the folks at RMU.

Kristo having a good time at the Habs development camp, Cichy not so much:

For the most part, it has been a quiet, polite affair. After two days, the most intense person on skates has been Habs' assistant coach, Kirk Muller.

An exception to the rule is Danny Kristo who has approached every task with enthusiasm. He also seems to be injecting some creativity in repetitive drills. While Kristo navigated the cones like everyone else, he banked the puck off the boards to give the exercise an additional challenge.

Kristo seems to be enjoying himself and is showing some leadership qualities by chatting otherwise silent teammates.

The forwards went through a number of skating drills on Wednesday morning. Kristo has good acceleration but it was Joonas Natinnen who excelled with powerful cuts and excellent body control. Gabriel Dumont and Michael Cichy were clearly the weakest of the group.

I really hope Mike's development doesn't stall. I like his talent and I really think he's got a chance to blossom in the next year or two. But sometimes he just seemed to disappear out there. We're going to need guys like him to take a big step forward if we want to fill VV's and Zajac's skates and achieve some success that's there for the taking with our solid blueline and goaltending.

He had a great first couple of games, but by the end of the first half he was pretty much an also-ran to Danny Kristo.

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

Can anyone here help out a puck collector? I usually pick one up from every venue I go to and have all intentions of hitting as many as I can. Unforturnately, I won't be making a UND home game before the "Fighting Sioux" logo pucks are all gone. Especially since there won't be any.

Can anyone here pick one up for me? Or does anyone have an extra that they would like to sell or trade? I'm looking for one with the Fighting Sioux indian head on it. I'll be more than happy to reimburse anyone for the cost of the puck plus shipping and their trouble (be reasonable of course) or I'll be happy to trade with another collector. I have a couple of new UAH horse head logo pucks and one extra, and very rare, UAH "Hockey Capital of the South" logo puck in the box (never opened) with a net display setup.

My humble thanks to anyone that can help me out.

This should work for you...

You can always search on Ebay too, there are usually a few Sioux pucks on there.
