Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

No more Fighting Sioux......BC or Bucky hoisting a trophy tomorrow.....

What a crappy day to be a UND fan. :(

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

For all of you that vote democrat and liberal - congratulations, you have helped to weaken a country!
It's not a liberal/democrat thing. It's a PC thing.

How much money was wasted fighting this that could have been put into the hockey program, or, -gasp!- education?
Nothing. The lawsuit was funded entirely through private donations. UND didn't take any money from any academic/athletic programs.

Yeah, because apparently I am Mexican now.

You don't look Mexican.

Run the table who? I don't know a team with that name. Are you hoping ths Standing Rock tribe runs the table?

UND still gets to be the Fighting Sioux for next season apparently. They get a year to transition to the new nickname.

So, the Fighting Sioux can still run the table next season. :)

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

Apart from the mindless PC nonsense, the NC$$ has been a tower of inconsistency in this matter. Remember, FSU's president announced they were going to the mattresses on the day the policy was announced. Comittees formed, money allocated, etc. Then, suddenly, the NC$$ announced an escape hatch: if the Florida Seminoles approve, then you can keep the name and Chief Oseola. The Florida Seminoles were only too happy to give FSU its seal of approval in return for its continuing relationship with the university ($$$$).

Poor old Illinois was in a trickbag: the Illini Confederation no longer existed, having been wiped out in Indian wars in the 19th century. To whom was Illinois supposed to appeal for approval? At the end of the day what forced Illinois to abandon Chief Illiniwek was grandstanding Chicago democratic legislators who began to threaten the university's revenue stream if the Chief stayed. Game over. However, at least they were able to retain the name Fighting Illini.

No such luck for UND. Can't have the logo. Can't have the name. In the fullness of time we may learn the "real" reasons for the decision, I'm wondering if the proposed move to D1 may have figured somehow. In any event, I'm drawn to the conclusion that once again the NC$$ feels quite comfortable scoring cheap points against a smaller school. They did the same to DU years ago on that phoney "eligibility" issue. DU was punished not for doing anything wrong but for telling the NC$$ to go ******* itself. I'm thinking that willingness to slap around a smaller school may have played a role here.

Regardless, this is a shame, a GD shame.

What a great day to be a Gopher Fan! The No Dak hicks finally lose their mascot and that Hitler loving Ralph is turning is his Nazi logo casket! Gotta love it! It’s just flippin hilarious, and you know the town of Grand Forks is on suicide watch as we speak… because we know you hicks have nothing in life to look forward to besides Susie hockey and beating your wives!

And beating Minnesota. That's fun. Though beating the Gophers is easier than beating a woman.

To be fair, both teams have played like **** on the other's sheet of ice during the past few years.

???

I can see where you would say that about this year...but let's take a look at years past...

2008-2009: Sioux didn't play at Mariucci
2007-2008: Sioux were 1-0-1 at Mariucci
2006-2007: Sioux swept the Gophers at Mariucci
2005-2006: Sioux split at Mariucci
2004-2005: Sioux didn't play at Mariucci
2003-2004: Sioux split at Mariucci
2002-2003: Sioux split at Mariucci

So, if we look at the last 8 years, the Sioux were 6-4-2.

If we shorten that to the last 4 years, the Sioux were 3-1-2.

To take it even further, up until the disgrace that was the Saturday Night at Mariucci this season, the Sioux hadn't lost in their last 6 games at Minnesota, going 4-0-2.

I guess I thought they split the season three years ago. I stand corrected.

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

I hear you... I am indifferent to the team but I loved the uniform's and the logo's.. this sucks.

Bakunin *** is the problem....I follow HE so I don't get to see hockey outside the east. All I said was I was indifferent to the school but love the jerseys and you get your panities all in a wad? So one has to be a fan to like the jerseys?
