Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

Why do you want me to **** off, RinkPig? And why did you call me a dirty biot ch? That's not very nice. Don't you want to answer my question? How can all UND players be from Minnesota and Canada? Is Minnesota part of Canada now?

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

And beating Minnesota. That's fun. Though beating the Gophers is easier than beating a woman.
:D
Considering their mascot is a leprechaun, which isn't an actual group of people, I don't see how that is hostile and offensive.
So if UND picks a mascot that isn't a Native American, but keeps the Sioux name, all is good?
BC will be very good again next season. That's not ideal. ;)
Maybe they can suffer the early defections for a change ;)

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

The NC$$ is stupid. They need to do some research before deeming university names and mascots "hostile and abusive." Like maybe look into it a little bit, rather than just look at them and say so. What idiots.

And, FWIW, our logo was designed by a Native American.

Dirty so Rink Pink sent me a love letter as well. Eat Sh*t - RP What a class act eh... Hey Rink Pig you aren't from Redwood Falls by any chance?

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

The pres Kelley didn't go to bat like Cupchella did. I say drop all the programs for Native Americans. We have nothing to honor them for now. Yes, I'm still bitter, but this is a crock of crap. All or nothing NC$$, I'm offended by the other ND's name.
No. Keep the programs. Don't penalize students because of something they had no control over. This is the doing of the NC$$ and the SBoHE.

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

I suppose...why punish the students for something the morons did?
A better question is: Why punish all those at Spirit Lake and Standing Rock who fought so hard to keep the nickname and likely represent the majority of American Indians?

Because people are grumpy and need something to do until football starts up in the fall?

I'd be for this if all the money came to me, but completely against it otherwise. I'm for anything that gets me free money.

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

A few ss.com posters were at the Sioux Booster Luncheon in Fargo today and mentioned some tidbits from Hakstol's speech:

He said that he didn't expect any early departures this offseason.
He also said that Genoway has already applied for his medical hardship waiver, but that Chay hasn't decided on whether he will return or not yet. Evidently some NHL teams have expressed some interest.

We should probably expect a Chay decision in the next few weeks would be my guess, unless the NCAA takes longer to approve the waiver.

Also, Brad mentioned that work has already begun on prep for next season:

As far as the Sioux are concerned, the 2010-11 season began today.

The players gathered back at Ralph Engelstad Arena after taking two weeks off to rest and recover from the season. The offseason workouts are now underway.

UND coach Dave Hakstol said at the season-ending press conference that he believes the offseason will be the difference between a team that could have a special season or a team that could have a disappointing season.

There are obviously still some unknowns about next season's roster -- most notably whether Chay Genoway will try to return with a medical redshirt or turn pro. But even so, the prep work for the others is underway.

Excellent news all the way around! Sounds like a can't lose sitution for Chay's future. Too bad we didn't see more of him in a Sioux jersey this past season.

There is a lot of ignorant crap coming from people over this. This would be the time to step up and reward tribes. None get free educations like people think.

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

There is an article in today's GF Herald that talks about the actions taken by the SBoHE since the settlement with the NC$$. If what is written is true, it looks like the board put a lot of effort into trying to win approval from the tribes to keep the nickname. What it came down to was a refusal at Standing Rock to give approval of the nickname, or allow a referendum, and a June 1 date to apply to the Summit league for play in 2012. Is this an accurate picture?

The Standing Rock tribe, as I've read, had to change a (or a couple) bylaws to have a vote at this time. The council refused to do that, so no vote. Since they were the tribe (rather, council) that didn't support the name, no agreement, and we have the situation we are in right now.

They also refused many times to support the use of the nickname.

The vote last fall, IIRC, was about 65-35 for the nickname, but the vote was non-binding, so the council (led by Ron His Horse Farts Thunder, who has since been voted off/removed from the council) didn't follow the vote's results.

That was the Spirit Lake tribe.

I swear that the Standing Rock tribe also voted, and the council ignored the vote, delaying this decision for a bit, etc etc in the courts.

No, I'm not the expert or anything, I was following what a few key people posted with links.
