University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

Maine getting jobbed by the officials on home ice. Third straight called this period. This time a hooking while we are in the o zone. Freel goes off this time. My gawd.

For how shorthand they were and with guys playing out of position, was a good win. Really locked it down on defense and on the PK.
As you said, there were several guys playing out of position, but Maine got it done.

Mitton will be back on Sunday, Breen possibly will be back mid-month...

I loved the effort tonight. Better times ahead, IMO.

What is the story with Breen exactly? Anyone know the surgery? Injury on 11/30 and hopefully back on 2/14. 75 days or 10+ weeks. Fibula fracture?

Get him, Russell, Mitton, and Dalton back to full strength for the post season push and last 7 games.
Always liked the line ups:

Scott, Freel, Nadeau
Renwick, Makar, Mitton
Breen, Russell, Fowler
Komarov, Scholle, Niemo
Holt, Djurasevic
Breazeale, Chabrier
Dalton, Nobes
Lesakowski

I like your 2nd line. Nobody's going to want to take a shift against those animals.

Show me where I have said anything against commenting on Maine Bball? I've watched plenty of Maine Womens BBall over the years. Was a regular in the pit when Liz Coffin, Racheal Bouchard , Steph Guidi, Emily Ellis and many others played. Being an Orono Boy I was around when Dr J played in the pit against Peter Gavett, Paul Bessey etc.
For the younger guys, that's when a basketball was a deer stomach filled with wool and pine pitch and they used unicycle rims attached to Model A hoods for backboards.

At least Fish was correct about me being old :)

Not a pretty win but a good one just the same. Think the week off slowed them down at first. I believe they come out swinging tomorrow afternoon. Nice to Makar and Josh get some points. Not sure how Boija got handcuffed on NU goal?

Swap Niemo for Pichette on the fourth line and I’m good with these lines once we are back up to speed. Even with the small sample of games it’s clear Pichette’s defensive ability is among the best on the team.

Last night’s effort was one of the best of the season. I thought a lot of guys had super strong games and not a lot of weak ones outside of Arnott. Freel also didn’t have his best game.

The boys rallied a pulled out a gritty win, something the struggled with last year.

Yah, that Walrus dude.....older than dirt. He'll be inducted soon into the USCHO posters HOS once he turns 90.
It was tough win I guess. Agree I didnt think Maine looked real sharp in the beginning but slowly came out of it. Komarov looks like a budding potential superstah in this league if he keeps developing. Enjoy watching him on the boards. Tough to deal with.

Hey, you're just a kid compared to me.

I was there to see the great Rufus Harris tear up the conference waaay back in the day, and the next season Skip Chapelle gave me a couple of lifts to school when I would hitch from Stillwater. Nice guy, funny as hell.

He coached against legendary UConn coach Jim Calhoun when the latter was still at the helm at Northeastern. I remember Calhoun saying : "I knew it was gonna be a long night in Orono when I overheard Skip discussing tee-times with the refs during warmups."

Tough L for Maine at Vermont today, but I love this team. Great to be able to watch them on an off day for hockey.

The Freel penalty was an absolute joke. Rouillard always needs to make himself first star with one clown call a game.

Breen is skating. But not taking hard turns. Trying to get his conditioning back. Russell hopefully back against PC that will be a big weekend but not before tomorrow we need those 3 points against Flagship
