University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

It took 21 shots but Maine finally got one of a stuff in crash the net style on an initial shot by Chabrier on the power play.

Tied at 1

They finally got a greasy goal!

In other news, I've been impressed all weekend with how effectively Denver gets sticks in lanes and blocks shots.

Would have backbreaking to have such a shot disparity and not come out of that period with a goal.

Davis has left some loose pucks both games so hopefully they can get guys crashing and bury a few more grimy goals just like that.

If I’m Coach Barr I would stress going to the net and take whatever shots they put on you after the whistle. It is getting under Denver’s skin and they are bound to give Maine more power plays. That board work, cycle, crash the net front can win them this game. Because it is keeping Denver from playing their speedy breakout game. I get the feeling their D doesn’t like playing facing the boards and clearing the net. Just keep wearing them down with the heavy grueling play. Guys like Freel, Makar, Renwick, Fowler are key at working in front and around and behind their net.

Maine hit two pipes that period. Maine heavily outplaying Denver so far but still tied at 1 which is super frustrating. Maine outshooting Denver 39-10 after two periods. Gotta keep that hard work going and grind the boards and the net front. 20 more minutes. Great game so far by Maine, need finish one off for a change!
