University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

Colgate fan here...looks like Mitton is contributing nicely, a banger that scores too !

The guy has a motor, and he sticks his nose in at every opportunity.

Perhaps not the greatest hands, but I love his wheels and his grit. He fits right in at Maine, and I think all of us on this thread are happy to have him on board.

Seems like they want to sell the worst seats first and reserve the good seats to sell at a later date. Probably they think they can sell better that way. But that philosophy is penalizing the fan that is a die hard and prepared in advance. I was looking today also for better than what I got for the final, which is on an end.

No doubt, Sparkee. The 3rd-party ticket mongers -TicketBastard is the original, and still the worst- have been doing it forever.

On the way to RPI on the game days, we looked at what seats were available via whatever 3rd party racket has the RPI contract (it was one I'd never heard of), just for fun.

The difference..? We got great seats, $62 for all three, as opposed to sh** nosebleed seats way up in the corner for $89, advertised as "best available", in an arena that was perhaps 25% full, if even that. It's a con that even 47 would be proud of.

Been through the mill for a lot of years, and seen that sort of crap many times. I have never dealt with a 3rd party when a call to the venue's box office is an option. And I've never failed in getting better and cheaper seats

I hope this is the last time RPI is scheduled for a few years. They do nothing for the pairwise and too many dirty plays, the easy wins aren't worth it.

I agree.

I wouldn't dismiss the entire team as dirty, but Lee (I think IRTC) was a goon, and unless RPI gets a lot better, travelling to Troy is a fool's errand for Maine.

I just noticed Komarov greatly improved his face off stats last game by going 13-0 fow-fol. If he keeps that up he will get back to 0.500 in no time.

i just paid through the nose for Portland tickets with all the added fees

Yes. Fibula. And ligament damage.

I thought that, having suffered the same thing myself when I was in my 30's and having seen Breen react similarly.

I was back to running again in 7 weeks. A younger man might recover sooner than that.

The ligament thing, no way to know from here, but I suspect we'll see him again after New Year's Day.

Sure hope so, anyway.

My wife fell on the ice and snapped her fibula, they drove titanium rod in, couple screws and she was encouraged to put weight on it as soon as possible. Took months to get close to near normal though. Obviously she didn't have a training staff trying to get her better nor was she a fine tuned athlete :) . Her ankle is still not normal and couple screws backed out so they had to go back in and take them out. I wish Lynden the best and hope we see him on the ice at Alfond again. If he was back before March I'd be shocked

Dang, I dont even know what to say, so unfortunate, he's a great guy, wife and I had a chance to say hi to him last year. Can only imagine how hard this must be for him. Wonder if the ice was soft and grooved up caught his skate at the wrong time.

I was worried that might be the case. Well, March 1st is senior night. Hopefully he can make it back by then.

Wishing the best for Breen. He is a very talented player and while I would love to see him back on the ice this season, doesn't really sound good for him.

If that was it he'll finish his Black Bears career tied with Derek Damon for 42nd on the Maine scoring list with 111 points. Really solid career!

I think Maine will overcome his injury, but as others have said I wonder if they'll bring someone in early to deepen the bench a bit.

You would think it would be a good two way 200 ft center man with speed and range and is aging out and hasn’t been given an opportunity yet. Now with major juniors also in play I wonder if they can find someone that is ok missing first semester of freshman year for a depth role in hopes of latching on for the following 3 years. That is what Dalton had to do. For him it appears to be working out because he is generally in the line up. His CHIP score is currently higher than Lesakowski’s, Arnott’s, and Antonacci’s. So at least as of right now he is outplaying those three. Would love to see a diamond in the rough like Komarov come in.

I was thinking, in trying to bring in CHL players, they have to get accepted into the University, wonder how many players this could be a hurdle for. Or they have to come in as freshmen which some older players may not want to deal with. Be interesting to see how this plays out.

I think anyone who can get through the clearinghouse would get accepted to Maine and that is a pretty low Barr. I think in general kids do better now academically so would be less of an issue than it might have been back in the day.

Major junior has the same age limits as junior A here in us and in Canada. So if it was an age out coming in from major junior they would be 20 right now, just like an age out from junior A.

I do think the roster limit of 26 might put pressure on a guy like Jared Coccimiglio, who was lined up to come in next year. But with the reductions by two players he might be on the outside looking in. Because he didn’t stick at BCHL level and bounced back to NAHL. So this might make the difference in him making the Maine team or not - that is - come in next semester. He is fast and crafty, but undersized. Something like Califiore but faster skating and plays center.

Another center set to come in is Brock James. But he is in USHL and might not want to lose 10 games of eligibility. He would be ideal though.

The one thing Maine has going in its favor is they are a virtual lock to make ncaa playoffs, so it would at least be a memorable year enjoying playing on a winning squad with decent post season success odds.

Brock James would make a lot of sense to come in early.

Wonder if James Taylor would also be in play as well. Might not be a bad idea to get him here early to learn from a couple other players we have with size (Makar/Renwick).

One small note about commitments I noticed while looking at my sheet: Nicholas Wellenreiter is now playing for North Bay of the OHL, so he'll be the third commit to move over to the CHL.
