University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

It will be a good barometer of how strong the team is. It appears to be a veteran team that seems deep and balanced lines, deep defensive pairings that move the puck well, and great goaltender in Boija. After four years now we can see the team Barr architected and it seems well constructed. This feels so great after the Red era.

I think that this will be a Maine sweep.....3-1 on Friday and 6-2 on Saturday. Makar will score 4 goals on the weekend and inject himself into the early Hobey Baker conversation.

Ok thats bold! Go for it hope it holds up.
Makar will be fun to watch this season to see if its a break out year for him. Odd that he never shined under Carvel, who can bring out the talent in players.

From what I saw from UMass fans on twitter, they thought there was tension there and Carvel never really wanted him/gave him opportunities. No clue if it's true or not, but that seemed to be the sentiment when he transferred.

Theres likely an element of truth there.
In that case change should be really good for him.
I thought last year during the umass games he was always a threat when on the ice.

Coach’s Show: Barr mentioned Maine will be playing at Quinnipiac next season as that would be the second half of the two year agreement. Would likely do home and away every two years as he annd Pecknold enjoy having their teams play each other. Coach said Fowler has improved a lot in the last month and will likely play his way into all situations and top six minutes in the future. Says the key for Maine is to be consistent for 60 minutes, hold on to the pucks, and play hard and heavy. Says Quinnipiac’s strength is they play consistent and disciplined for 60 minutes. And to expect a much different feel to the game as they won’t have the puck for most of the game like they did last two games. Will likely be more even puck possession and so his team has to play well in their own end.

Interested to see how this Quinnipiac team stacks up with the ones we've seen Maine play over the last few seasons.

Seems like they've lost a bunch of scoring from last year and have some goalie question marks coming into the season. Hopefully they are still taking some time for their lineup to gel and we can grab both games against them.

On their thread a fan linked to a blog which is a decent season preview here: https://www.bobcatshockeyblog.com/2024/10/2024-2025-quinnipiac-bobcats-season.html

I tracked the transfer portal transactions quite closely and I believe they did very well in landing good replacements. They also have solid scorers in their freshman class. So I believe they will not be drastically affected. The goalie we will likely see is the one Maine beat last year, but it was in OT in a 2-1 game(in CT).

They are ranked 7th. I expect a war and nothing less. I want to see if Maine’s heart/effort/grit level is better this year than last year.

Guess we will see how the team is this weekend. I hope they come out full bore tonight. Q plays tight D so getting to their goalie will be key. I expect Makars line will have to score for Maine to be successful . Without a doubt Alfond will be rocking this weekend

Draftkings has the odds as -115 for both Maine and Quinnapiac so their book makers see this as an even series.

Side note: I didn't notice how top heavy the first semester is compared to the second. QU, @BC, BU before the break and DU before the second semester starts.

I’ll be watching that first line tonight to see if they can get in sync.
Bottom line, if Maine wants to run with the big boys then it needs its #1 line to step up their game. Would free up more space for Makars line, etc., who will currently be getting the defensive attention instead of the first line.

This could really be a game changer for the athletic department. I hope there are no shenanigans with the school/system.

Sounds like theres stipulations in how it can be used for athletics. Coach retention was mentioned among others.
