University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

I'm going Saturday, but I'm not expecting much excitement. I don't understand opening the season up with 1 game, then an exhibition game. Why not just make it a regular season game? I don't think it's a requirement to have an exhibition game.

It doesn’t count towards the game limit, so you might as well have one and get revenue for it. They will try to make money whenever they can, so that it remains as well funded as possible. It also is an opportunity to see some of the rookies play. I think they get to have a bigger roster for the game. I expect we will see both rookie goaltenders, and the other rookies play. What is the story with Carney? Is he able to play now?

For me I think the primary draw of the exhibition game would be to see the two freshman goalies, I would guess that Boija will be stapled to the bench and they will split the time with Berzins and Stewart in some capacity. Maybe Berzins for two periods and Stewart one, or vice versa? Or switch at the first whistle after the 10 minute mark of the second?

Anybody else surprised that Berzins wasn't backup up Boija for the Opener? There could be an injury or something like that, but seemed odd that he wasn't the primary backup given the narrative that he might actually be a better prospect than Boija. Curious to see the rotation for the exhibition against Army!

Lol great minds think alike!

I think the exhibition game is just a cash grab. Times are tough so can’t blame the school for trying to make what they can.

The only problem I have with the first two weekends is that by only playing one game that counts and no meaningful games you get less rest down the road. The stretch between Quinnipiac and RPI will be a tough one.

You bring up a good point on Carney..he must have been injured pretty bad last year, but I'm wondering if he can even crack the lineup at this point. Even Antonacci who was a regular last year saw reduced minutes against AIC. I imagine Barr will be like Belechick and play most of his regulars..you don't play to lose and this is better than a live practice even if it's exhibition.

Be interesting to see who plays today and if anyone who didn't play last week stands out.

Fowler throws it on net on a spin move at the point and Komarov tipped it in for his first goal.

Maine 1-0

Pretty much all the regulars are in Barr is treating this like a regular game.

In the coach’s show he said he was going to. Still, was hoping to see the new netminder/s Berzin and/or Stewart.

Maine outshooting 14-2 shots on goal. Virtually entire period played in Army’s end, and Maine worked for 3 power plays.
