University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

Scott hustle draws a power play with 6 minutes left. Let’s hope this power play works. Maine hasn’t been good on the power play tonight.

Some late drama where Djuresevic took a penalty. Quinnipiac pulled th goalie on the power play and had lots of chances. Finally Maine killed it and applied enough pressure to hang on for the 2-1 win.

That was a high anxiety game to watch.

Great win by the Bears! QU didn't impress much in the first but ultimately settled in and made it the tough game I expected it'd be.

Special teams was pretty meh last season and that ultimately held this team back. While I don't like how undisciplined Maine played tonight the PK looked really good tonight.

Haven't really liked what I've seen from the PP thus far through three games. A lot of the struggle are because of just how bad they are at zone entries. Once the puck leaves the zone, they are atrocious at setting back up. Feel like Nadeau is missing that chemistry with his brother, he missed some really easy looks for Mitton to fire a couple rockets on the PP as well.

Boija is a menace, looks even sharper in year two. Gotta give Barr full marks on finding him, what a snag. Can't recall seeing a goalie who makes blocker saves so effortless.

I’m so impressed with the team speed as a whole, the D men look so much more comfortable with the puck than in the past. If the first line and the PP can get rolling, this may be a very special year.

What a gritty team and a gritty win.

Boija was first star in my book. Maine loses/ties that game last year. 1-12? on PP, not sure why, seems they have the skill to be better than that. Like I said earlier fastest Maine team in many years, probably since 2010 2011 ?? Maybe even back further? Tonight will be a different game, Q will be ready in first period. Low scoring tight game tonight.

If Maine stays healthy and gets PP going, watch out. Good night to stay home I heard traffic was a bear in Orono, perfect weather for Football today so campus will be full once again.

Sometimes I think they are trying to make one pass too many on the power play. 4 shots on goal over 8 minutes of power play time is not cutting it. That is an average of 1 shot per power play. Quick pass and fire without taking time to coral the puck. This way they can get pucks through to the net and see about getting a rebound with goalie down or out of position. Charlie’s goal last night came this way so why not on the power play. Maine power play seems to want to coral the puck and then dilly dally and they end up getting every shot blocked sometimes turning into rush the other way. Too much telegraphing. Not every goal needs to be pretty, take what you can get for shots. The crowd cheers just as loud for the ugly goals.

Agreed. Maine has the size and power to create a bit of chaos now on the PP.

Tonight I expect it to be a slug fest and to get Quinnipiacs best game. At no point last night was I thinking Maine was in over their heads. How far has this program come under Barr.

Funny thing is Maine looks to be a bigger and heavier team than Quinnipiac but they are just as fast. The skill difference however in regards to Quinnipiac vs Army/AIC is striking. They are quick, fast, skilled, and have some really nice players.

Maine have net presence on units 2 and 3, but I don't know who is supposed to be there on units 1. Maine's only pp goal, so far, came from a tip standing in front of the goalie. Just get picks through. Sometimes a weaker shot is an easier tip.

How the heck is Maine football beating number 5 Villanova by 35 points late in 3rd? I haven't followed Maine football much but I know they aren't great. I think they have improved over the season? Crazy, now the question is, good omen? or Bad omen ? for tonights game :)
