University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

Very unlikely that even winning Hockey East tournament that Maine will get past BC in the Pairwise.

According to PlayoffStatus, BC currently has a 96% chance of landing that #1 overall seed.
Yes and MSU/MN are the main representatives of that other 4%. The problem now is that the number of potential losses for everyone is dwindling as we run the clock out on the regular season and get into single elimination conference tourney territory. We'll know a lot more after this weekend; if BC piles up two more wins this weekend it's likely an absolute zero that Maine would jump BC for the Manchester region even if they met in the HE final and Maine beat them due to their current 2-0 lead head to head and a sizeable RPI lead. BUT, should BC stumble this weekend the door could swing wide open. Maine would have to finish strong as well; two games at Zoomass is no picnic to end the season.

Maine going to Manchester has been dead as far as I'm concerned for a long time now. From what I can see Maine seems destined for Allentown.

Maine should 100% be pedal to the floor. Being the #1 seed means playing on fresher ice in the regional. The ice in Springfield was horrible last year especially after the 2OT game before. I would rather play on good ice than running the chance of it being crappy.

On the other hand getting Allentown might mean facing Penn St as a host in the first round. They are the hottest team in the country and their fans show.

Either way Maine, if they want to become a championship level program once again, have their work cut out for the them to go on a run.

Will try to go to Allentown, the hurdle is how to get there. Long nasty drive or fly to philly. 🤔
Sadly, I can’t make Allentown work due to children commitments that Saturday morning. I would only be able to swing Manchester. So more than likely I will need to watch on tv. But might go to games in Manchester anyway if Maine isn’t playing at that specific time. Hopefully they didn’t overlap schedules for the two eastern sites.

I'll be driving down. I used to make frequent trips from Maine when I lived in the Reading area so I could probably do it in my sleep now.

Would always start my drive back around 3PM and get back to PA around midnight. If you don't mind night driving its the perfect to miss any and all rush hour traffic in MA/CT/NY/NJ.

I'm going to TD Garden regardless already fully booked there. I'll go to the frozen four and pay scalper prices if they make it but Allentown is not in the cards for me. I have never liked the sites they pick for regionals.

Captain Lynden Breen: https://youtu.be/8YZJdoPT8Eg?feature=shared

Reflects on his time at Maine. Talks about how he felt after first game back.

Alternate Captain Nolan Renwick: https://youtu.be/Mdsm5Z5_Lpo?feature=shared

Says the chants at the start of the games by the fans still give him chills. Says the farm isn’t going anywhere, will go pro and when he can’t skate anymore he’ll get back to the farm.

Captain David Breazeale: https://youtu.be/p6rqXoWXJfk?feature=shared

Says he really thankful for the fans. He spent a lot of time saying great things about Nolan, they have roomed together since day one at Maine.

Coach Barr: https://youtu.be/Q5lHSsBNSKQ?feature=shared

Gives Lynden, Breazeale, and Nolan a lot of credit for the turn around of the program.

I’ll be at the garden regardless too. I’m hoping Maine gets healthy and on track and does some damage this time around.

BU and UConn are tied at 1-1 after 1. If the Huskies win, then any Maine win on Friday night guarantees Maine can finish no worse than second. A Terrier win and Maine is guaranteed a top-three finish in the league.

An oddity: there were no whistles for the final 12:16 of the period. Takes me back to the days of youth hockey and the running game clock...

I was on the list to get a suite for the Frozen Four. It was something like $16,000 for the three games in St Louis. Um...no.

The suite itself was 16K?

Ouch.
Yes. Just the suite (16 tickets)
Food and beverages extra. When I first did this in Tampa in 2016 it was $375/ticket (that included food)

Boston University wins the shootout to go to 40. The magic number for Maine (42) to clinch second is four. The Terriers have clinched no worse than third. Teams 4 through 8 are separated by three points.
