University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

I didn't think Maine was awful, maybe the first period? UConn out forechecked them for sure in the 1st. Boija once again best plyer for Maine. Penalty in OT cost them a chance at another point. Good to see Breen out there, hopefully he is OK today? I've though this team was offensively challenged for awhile and getting Breen back may help that? Neimo once again got into the goalie alone and didn't get a shot off , He was in traffic but it was him and the goalie, too bad. Clearing the zone is another obvious issue. Thats been going on a while also, Getting a point on the road is better than nothing which I thought might happen many times during the game. Need to take care of business at home against UVM. I expect that won't be easy. Still have a high seed at this point so can't be too disappointed.

That call on Makar was BS in my opinion. Muldowney was looking to go down the whole way and from what I saw makar was looking to turn around to make a play on the puck. I’m sure that’s what Barr was yelling about, can’t make that call in OT especially when UConn has already had more PP’s than Maine.

I wouldn’t mind playing UConn again at the alfond or the garden. Maybe I’m alone but I figured that’s exactly how a road game vs a top 10 team would go. Maine responded when they needed to and should have won that game in the early part of 3 on 3. That game didn’t hurt them at all in the pairwise and favorable results keep Maine looking good for 2nd in hockey east with an outside chance at 1st.

i think your crazy uconn has had maines # last couple years

Just got home from Storrs a short time ago. Some thoughts on the game;

- Maybe it's just me, but I don't share the opinion many here seem to have that UCONN is an unlikeable, whiny team. I don't really recall any plays where I thought a guy dove or anything, and I didn't see an inordinate amount of complaining at the refs. Though that last one applies mostly to the guys on the ice, I wasn't looking at Cav or the bench much, so can't comment on him.

I dont know, saw ALOT of whining to the officials by coaches and players when they were up here. It was clearly part of their game plan. Same as the BU games this year.
Couldn't tell last night on tv, alot of that isnt shown.

Not many games this year where Maine has been out shot (45-34). Without Boija, Maine loses this game in regulation and comes away with 0 points. Outstanding goal keeper! UConn plays alot like Maine. Very aggressive on the forecheck and doesn't allow time and space. They're a good team. It seems like Maine has won the extra point in close games all season long until last night.

This happened right in front of me, I was a few rows behind the glass on that side of the rink. It was quite disappointing and frustrating, he went for the extra move again and tried to make a pretty play instead of shooting the puck.

The two whiniest teams in hockey east are BU and UConn. I'm not saying they aren't good teams but they take the direction from the coach. Lots of flopping last night and I'm trying to find the video of that cross check on Brazele in the third which was absolutely ridiculous in front of the ref

Also the NESN broadcast was AWFUL. It was just literally all UConn ball washing

Providence rallies for three third period goals for a 4-2 victory which clinches a home quarterfinals game at Alfond Arena on 15 March. Barring a collapse by Boston College or something unusual happening to Maine and Boston University, the final standings will be
1 Boston College
2 Maine
3 Boston University

There is a logjam from 4-7 (UMass could make it 4-8) separated by only two points with four games remaining.

This would be the best finish for Maine since taking second place in the standings in 2006.

Worst case scenario, Maine ends up in Fargo?

Maine would have to fall from 4 to 6 or 7 in the Pairwise. If WMU passes us, they would be the third western #1 seed and get kicked east to Allentown, where we would be the #2 seed.
Which would be ain interesting scenario if Quinnipiac continues to hang around their current spot. I'm not sure if it would be better for Maine to be the #1 seed and possibly play Q.....or going in #2 and maybe playing an Ohio State or Michigan?

There's no bad teams in the NCAAs. We have seen this team beat Quinnipiac. But QU may need to win the ECAC tourney to make it.

Side note: Sweeping UVM this weekend clinches the #2 seed.

I know Barr won't do it but I go all in this weekend and then play with a side of caution against Flagship. I know pairwise js important but we need health too

Looks to me that the Q is easily the best team in the ECAC, but the silly AQ's are always an issue.

As has been alluded-to, all Maine has to do is to sweep this weekend.

Not easy, but doable. I expect a balls-out effort from the Bears.
