University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

Of all the embellishments called this year, Mitton has had a couple come to mind…Yukon guy looked like he got shot. Lame. Lame. Lame. Felt like Maine was in the box a lot.

I dont know if they showed it on the TV broadcast, but Ben Barr had A LOT to say at the referees on his way off the ice. He was very animated and upset about something.

No didnt see it, unlike Barr normally.
Has gotten shafted plenty by the refs, a little late but good for him.
Saw Cav whining at the refs several times on tv.

Cavanaugh is a crybaby like his team.

There was a distinct play in the 3rd where UConn player cross checks Brazele with two hands in front of the ref with no call.

Boija stole them a point tonight. They asked way too much of him tonight, and that OT penalty was just a killer.

Thought they looked faster in the third, but didn't really make a difference.

Hope that Barr is able to find a couple bonafide finishers to add to the roster next year.

Good. He should. As aggressive as Yukon played. 2 penalties. And plenty of dives. The one late in the 3rd where about 4 players had their hand up on the boards take down. Begging for another.

Culmination of the year where Maine hasn’t seemed to get the same calls. How many games has Maine had 3 more PP than an opponent? The highest difference was vs Providence when Bears were in the box for 32 min vs their 8 min.

Maine had more minutes in the box vs UNH, Prov, NE, and UConn series since Denver. The only game they had less was 2nd game vs Lowell.

Idk. Seems like something is a trend at this point. Do you guys see Preston Ryan out there??? And Lesakowski hasn’t gotten any recently!

He did, and that was key.

Maine is in great shape right now. (And I want nothing at all to do with UConn, going forward. That's a very solid team.)

Having said that, what Maine fan in his right mind is going to bitch and moan about where the Bears are presently?

I'm delighted about being a prospective #1 seed. And we all know where we'd be if Red was still steering the ship.

Incompetent people shouldn't run a two car parade, but that sometimes happens, doesn't it?

Just got home from Storrs a short time ago. Some thoughts on the game;

- Maybe it's just me, but I don't share the opinion many here seem to have that UCONN is an unlikeable, whiny team. I don't really recall any plays where I thought a guy dove or anything, and I didn't see an inordinate amount of complaining at the refs. Though that last one applies mostly to the guys on the ice, I wasn't looking at Cav or the bench much, so can't comment on him.

-I do agree with many here that Breazeale didn't have a good game. He made some questionable decisions with the puck on several occasions, and was caught out of position a lot. Calling him a bad captain or a disappointment is frankly ludicrious in my opinion, but it is true he played badly tonight and was probably Maine's worst player in this specific game.

- With some time to reflect on the drive home, I don't think they played terribly tonight. It sometimes wasn't pretty, the beginning of the second stands out as a bad stretch, but playing a top team on the road in their barn is a tough task, and it was an evenly played game for a lot of it. That's a game you will rarely dominate, and can't always expect to win.

-Speaking of that team though, I hope Maine dosen't have to play Connecticut again in any capacity the rest of this season. I think they're a team most other teams in the nation won't want to see in a one-and-done setting, but Maine especially doesn't play well against them, as we've seen for several years running.

-Maine is still good, and they'll be fine. They haven't played quite as well in the second semester as the first, but they're still winning games, are fundamentally sound, and aren't skidding hard like last year's team did around this time.

-Albin Boija is an animal.

With the point, Maine can finish no worse than fifth, so has clinched a bye to the quarterfinals. Any Providence win (regulation, OT or shootout) over Lowell tonight clinches a home game in those quarters.
