Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

So where does everyone think we'll end up after tonight standings wise?

On paper, we may have the "easiest" matchup as Yale gets a hot Cornell team, SLU gets a strong RPI team, and Dartmouth gets the Cleary Cup winners.... Clarkson did beat Union earlier this year but has lost three of the past four including the past two by a combined 11-2 score.

Anything can happen but I think Union wins tonight. I don't really have a good read on how the Yale, Dartmouth, and St. Lawrence games will go.

The loss to Clarkson earlier this year was probably Union's worst played game of the year, and if Union comes out and plays like they did last night they'll wipe the ice with Clarkson.

With an effort as good as last night's we should be able to handle Clarkson but that's a major if. As best as I can tell we have the tiebreaker on SLU though Schottskie blogged otherwise. Union has put themselves in a position where they need other games to go their way to get the bye.

Qpac may have peaked a bit early and dont seem to be playing their best hockey right now or maybe they are just on cruise control and as formidable as they are could well lose tonight to the Big Green. Dartmouth will be all in to secure the bye and that alone could give them the edge. Yale v Cornell is also intriguing with Cornell on a tear and and Yale back in gear. To me the odds seem likely that either Yale or Dartmouth will lose which would open the door for U to sneak into the top 4, so I'm predicting fourth and the bye. How's that ?

If that happens, I'll be thrilled.

Another benefit of a first round bye for me - the America East basketball tournament is in Albany next weekend, so wouldn't have anything else going on.

Another game to watch today is the Brown/Colgate game which has NCAA Tournament ramifications. Colgate and Brown are right on the TUC cliff. Union's NCAA tournament hopes would be helped if Brown can sneak into being a TUC team.

Brown up 1-0 early on Lorito goal.

i think we are pretty much out of the tournament unless we win the Whitelaw Cup but who knows? A a strong run in the postseason and some other teams collapsing and anything can happen I guess.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

Last year it came down to RPI taking out Cornell to get us the Clearly Cup. Assuming a win by us, we need Yale to loose or tie against Cornell. Come-on Big Red !!! Yale is tough at home 7-3-1. The last time they played it went overtime. Union has the tie breaker against Yale with a tie and a win. Another scenario we need is for Dartmouth to tie or loose against Quinnipiac. Dartmouth has the tiebreaker against us. Dartmouth is also very tough at Home (10-3-1). However, on the Road, Quinnipiac is an astonishing 10-1-2 and that loss was just against Harvard. I am hoping Quinnipiac is very upset at the loss. I refuse to contemplate a Union loss after yesterday. I see a Yale win and a Dartmouth tie and St. Lawrence is out with a loss to RPI. Quinnipiac, RPI, Yale, Union get a bye. Union makes it to Atlantic City again, wins the ECAC against RPI after RPI upsets Qinnipiac. Union and RPI advance to the Final 4 and play for the national championship. I see it all very clearly ....

Yeah, I'd be lying if I said I didn't expect to see Stevens in there today. With a "very questionable" status for today, I wasn't counting on seeing Grosenick.
Cheryl is the best athletic trainer in the ECAC! Actually she is top notch.

Only time RPI would be playing Q-Pac is the ECAC championship game, given QPac is #1 and RPI is #2. You're more likely to see us in the semis.

Vasaturo is officially "week to week" - he was injured in the first last night.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

Yale has come to play ... just scored first goal. Have dominated the game thus far. Cornell looks like they are tired. Iles is playing very well but is being peppered. Don't think we can count on Cornell ....
