Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

The Goulakis goal was scored exactly as the PP time expired so it doesn't count as one. We are a different team with or without him. He qb's the PP...currently eleventh in the country. With him at one point the PP was like 10-16. The last games he missed it was like 1-9. He a force I haven't seen at Gate in many years.

Well that game was essentially over after the first 11 minutes .. only reason the score was remotely respectable was because the Red got called for a bunch of penalties. I actually understand benching Simpson but it sure seems like a strange time in the season to start sending a message to your best players. Even worse, this team just doesn't seem capable of scoring more than 1 or 2 goals against a good goalie, which given the talent on the forward lines is puzzling. I'd thought when the season started that this team might have some problems scoring goals against certain teams, but I didn't expect to go on for 2/3 of the season. I also don't get how you can come out for the 3rd period on freaking FRIDAY and be gassed, though I have to admit that the team has looked like that in the 3rd period more than a few times this season. Almost have to wonder if a few too many players decided to take the summer off conditioning-wise.. Whatever it is, I just get the sinking feeling that its too late to fix it now. My guess is we will (hopefully) have a home playoff series 2 weekends from now and wait for the shoe to drop.

Bennett on decision to sit Simpson: "If you don't score five on five goals against Penn State, you tell me."

I really don't get this comment.. Penn State was 3 months ago. If he had a problem with Simpson then, why wait till now?? Obviously Bennett is very frustrated and I hope this works..

I really didn't think Union was going to lose either game this weekend - let alone both. I thought they had a lot of momentum after last weekend, but the weekend's have been inconsistent lately. Bennett compared the team to a box of chocolates - you never know what you're going to get.

That first period tonight was very demoralizing. You kind of felt the game was over with after that third goal, which ultimately proved to be the case. Had some nice spurs after, but the writing was on the wall. The first period tonight ranks with that stinker against Yale in November 2011 as one of the worst opening frames in the past few years.

To think that the Ivy League schools are supposed to be producing the leaders of this country. That bunch definitely looks like it would be more at home in North Korea. :)

Considering the govenrment is trying to turn us into a communist nation...

That's normal for Lynah. What shocks me more is the number of empty seats over in the students section.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

Based on the radio broadcast Union came out sleepskating at the outset. It made we wonder if the team had actually quit on the coaches or if the benchings left them in a state of shock. The apparently horrendous turnover by Boyle opened the floodgates to the disasterous 3 goal deficit. It didn't help that Roy missed yet another wide open goal that would have cut the deficit to a more manageable 2 goals at the end of the first. The late comeback was somewhat heartening and there were a couple of near misses for an EAG. We are now mid pack in the standings, deservedly so, but still in position to make some noise though I certainly am not counting on it.

They do the same thing VERBATIM at every game to every opponent, whether Cornell is winning or not. the lack of creativity is pretty mind numbing.

Meh - your lack of creativity is another team's tradition. Or are you telling me that the crowd does completely different cheers at every single Union game?

It's time to be fair and apply my same standard of observation to Union hockey this year as I apply to all other sports teams. After this many games, with this level of consistent inconsistency, it's time to realize this years team is a notch above average but nothing more. There is no separation between Union and the rest of the ECAC pack, which is to say Union has taken a step back. Is it a hangover from last year? Lack of leadership? Something else? Who knows. But Union will get what they deserve. If we are lucky it's a trip to A/C, but likely nothing more.

Clearly Qpac is this years Union. The similarities are pretty remarkable.

On the plus side. - look how far our expectations have come? ****, winning is fun...

Your first line shows you really need to get a grip on reality. The game was a sellout. This is before the 3d period starts, some students probably at concessions or the loo.
