Postgame videos (Bennett, Novak/Hatch/M.Bodie, and Yale coach Allain) and more: http://t.co/xQcY08Ry

"It's not like we have 27 goal scorers sprinkled through our lineup. I say that number for a reason and I think you know why." - Bennett

Stuart considered "doubtful" for Saturday.

I was talking with someone before last night's game who said that what U's offense really needed to get going was to face some bad goaltending and get a little puck luck.. thanks to Maricic that's pretty much what happened. I real nice effort and the confidence was palpable in the 3rd period. Now need to keep it going against a Brown team that has had some very good goaltending, though not last night in Troy. Amazingly tonight is a huge game as far as standings go, so hopefully the confidence continues.

Interesting comment about "27" goal scorers...

You really could see the momentum shift after Novak's shorty. I thought Union was chasing Yale all around the ice for about 25 minutes, but they got back into their game - pressured and forechecked and kept working, which resulted in those power plays.

Time to keep working and put more pucks on the net tonight. As with every year, a February game is crucial..

No changes in the lineup tonight: http://media.tumblr.com/2a2e7375043d19295aa12caff1dc18f6/tumblr_inline_mibti76rLu1qz4rgp.jpg

Last night's rout in Troy aside, Brown's been on an upswing and they've given Union all kinds of problems the past couple years. But if Union plays like they did in the final two periods last night, they can come away with two points. It should be a good game, but unfortunately I can't make it tonight.

Yale was one of the fastest teams I've seen this year. Their speed was really on display early on, but Union seemed to adjust to it as the game went on. After the first period, there was some concern Union would tire out from all that chasing.

There was an interesting nonhockey sequence last night during the national anthem. The young woman started and stopped singing twice. At first I thought it was an issue with the sound system but it became apparent that she had forgotten the lyrics. In any event the crowd spontaneously pitched in and sang it along with her. It was actually a nice moment.

The crowd knows more than "you" and "sucks" after "red"? :p

Some felt she started singing too early, before the red light went on for TV. In any event, it was a memorable moment.

Wasn't at the game - was Borelli THAT good (46 saves) or was Union just not getting many grade A looks? Ideally, would have more than one non-ENG on that many shots.

ANY win against Brown is a good win.. especially in the position U is in right now. Borelli was very good and Union did dominate play, though I would say the shot totals somewhat exagerated U's edge in play. Brown had 2 very scary flurries in the 2nd and 3rd periods that Grosenick had to be on his A game and he came up big. A very well deserved shutout and 2 very important points.

Borelli is just that good. Even though the lamp was lit 5 times on the other side of the Hudson, I seem to remember him keeping Brown in the tie games out in Providence.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

I don't want to read too much into this weekend's games but maybe U has finally turned the corner and can build some momentum at season's end. I agree that any win over Brown is a big one, the same for Yale. Maybe part of the difficulty in dealing with these two teams back to back is that they have such completely different styles and identities. Also, so far as Yale is concerned they were playing with second and third goaltenders, still Union had one of its best overall performances against them. In addition to finally getting some "puck luck", most significantly, Troy put together two back to back big games. He is the single most important player on the team who at peak performance gives us a chance to beat anyone. The team is not strong enough offensively to win consistently without him at his best.

A lot was made of the "as Wayne Simpson goes, so Union goes" statistic. That was put to rest last night against Brown, when Union won it's first game of the season without Wayno picking up a point. Also the Novak, Sullivan, Hatch line finally is getting it together and was the most effective line on both nights.

I'm assuming you're talking about @ Union? Because yesterday afternoon @ the Alb. Aca. game the woman who was singing the anthem also forgot the lyrics mid-way thru and the crowd started to sing it after realizing she forgot the words....like a trooper though she got back into the anthem.

Yes it was Friday night and while on the topic can we we let pass the U, Red, Knights, sucks, etc. ? IMO it's really getting tiresome and I have to say disrespectful as well.

At Union women's hockey games, there is no "U" chant during the anthem. Then again, there's only about 50 people there. More should give those games a chance, especially at $3.

You could pay people $3 to attend, and people still wouldn't go. Hardly anyone ever even goes to women's games at all, regardless of the team.
