Watched the game on NHL (no hockey league) network. Union College in TROY New York gets a shout out at the end of the game tonight. Way to go Ghost!
That was a real nice goal for Ghost. His quick release from the point never ceases to amaze me. It's real fun to have one of our own participating in the World Juniors after all these years of watching players from other schools.
This kid sounds like the real deal. I imagine there will be a bit of apprehension until he actually shows up on campus in the fall of 2014. Expectations for him will be high but it is tough for first year's to jump right in and score prolifically...just look at Laliberte last year who struggled somewhat and our freshmen this year. It probably takes at least a half season at the D1 level to get it into gear. Here's some insight from Cornwall on red hot Union hockey commit, current Cornwall Colt, Michael Pontarelli:

Find out what makes him good, his biggest weakness, his pro potential, and more.
The US team to me looked a lot better than last year's group, at least from what I could remember. I have to keep reminding myself that these are 18 and 19 year olds. Their skill level, speed and size are impressive. There were a bunch of NHL first rounders out there on both teams. Ghost always plays with a lot of confidence and he certainly appeared to be up to the task. The game winner was a beauty. If he does make the team and it goes deep into the tourney, he's going to be exhausted when he does return. Go "U"SA!

I think goal scorers have the longest transition period and that was what I was referring to though I didn't say that.Even Ghost took a couple of months until he started to come on in his first season. Not necessarily. One thing to remember with Laliberté is that he also had an injury early in the season. Some people are able to make the transition quickly. Look at Keith Kinkaid. I would also say that Ghost isn't having transition woes, either. Consider any player that turns pro (true pro, not just going over to MJ) after one year as well. They had to have been doing something right to be called up by the pros that quickly.
PORTLAND — Kents Hills boys’ varsity coach Larry Cockrell saw the potential in senior forward Mark Dufour when he was playing with Larry’s son Jared as a peewee with the Portland Junior Pirates.
Now the Winthrop native will be heading to play for the Union College Dutchmen for the fall of 2014 or 2015 to continue his hockey career.
