Shayne has officially made the USA World Junior team. Congratulations, Ghost!

Few know Union hockey better than "the Voice of Union Hockey," Matt DuBrey. A Union hockey broadcaster since the 2002-2003 season, DuBrey weighs in on the Dutchmen's season so far, what lies ahead, surprises, disappointments, and more....

USA is up 6-0 after 2 periods against Germany. Ghost scored Team USA's fifth goal with a slapper on the power play.

"Know Your Opponent: Vermont edition" w/ Vermont hockey correspondent Ted Ryan: http://on.fb.me/Yli04k

The longtime newspaper man discusses how their season has gone, their key players, their style of play, and how the game might unfold. Ryan also dissects the tenure of Vermont head coach Kevin Sneddon, a former Union hockey assistant (1994-1998) and head coach (1998-2003).

A good primer ahead of Saturday's game.

"Know Your Opponent: Merrimack" w/ Merrimack broadcaster, College Hockey News editor/writer Mike Machnik: http://on.fb.me/V9f5ev

Machnik dishes on how Merrimack's season has gone since the first game against Union, their top players, their style of play, and how he expects the rematch to go.

Looking forward to my first visit to Gutterson this weekend and to finally have hockey back. Union needs to get something positive flowing with a couple of OOC weekends leading to the ECAC push to the palyoffs.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

If you listened to the whole broadcast, the bonehead announcer said Gostisbehere went to Union College.......in Troy N.Y.

Don't feel too bad. SLU was playing at UMass-Amherst several years ago and the PA guy announced the score after 1 as being UMass-Amherst 2 and the St. Louis Billikens 1. So.....SLU is known as the Skating Saints, Saints, Larries, Sluzers (those Clarkson fans are very creative:)), Billikens, or as SLU(t). So, Union is the school at two locations and SLU is the school with six different names for its hockey team. You 'gotta love it.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

2-1 loss to UVM tonight, winless streak now up to 6 games.

I was going to come on here and say that Union just didn't win once again against a team that on paper should've been beat, but at this point it seems pretty obvious that Union just doesn't have it this year.

All of the little things that made Union nearly impossible to play these last few years seem to have disappeared. None of the lines have any cohesion, and they're constantly losing battles along the walls and in the corners. I didn't listen long enough to get the final stats, but it looked like UVM won more faceoffs, which is now happening on a game to game basis. Mental lapses and blown coverage have become the norm on defense and there's not really any signs of improvement.

On the bright side, I won't have to make another trip to that dump that is Atlantic City if this all keeps continuing.

The 5 game winless streak is no more. Union gets back in the W column with a 4-1 win over Merrimack.... hopefully, we look back on this game as a turning point.... all 4 Union goals came in the third, so perhaps some momentum into next weekend vs LSSU.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

This afternoon's win was a nice way to break the slide. The first two periods were more of the same play that plagued Union during the winless streak, however they flipped the switch in the third. The boys really looked like the Union team we've grown to love over the last few years during the third, which leads me to believe that the team has their swagger back.
