Unbelievable...the way the IIHF has handled discipline in this tournament as been an absolute joke.

Welcome to the World Juniors. Happens to the US and Canadian teams every year. :(

Insider Q&A plus notes for this weekend's 2 games at Lake Superior State: http://on.fb.me/WjZvMl

Random notes such as...

SIMPSON NEARS CENTURY MARK
Senior forward Wayne Simpson has 98 points in his illustrious Union career. With two more points, he'll reach the 100 point plateau, a feat accomplished by only eight other Dutchmen during the Division I era. The most recent was Jeremy Welsh, who reached the milestone during the 2011-2012 season. Welsh, who left the program in April to sign with the Carolina Hurricanes, concluded his three-year (2009-2012) Union career with 100 points. The Division I era career points leader is Adam Presizniuk (2007-2011) with 131.

It's about time the goons are called for what they really do.

I dont know what this post means....but I really like this kid and wish he was at RPI instead. He has been really solid from every tournament game I've seen thus far. Also, if you dont think that all that kind of "silent" chopping, hooking, slashing goes on at every level in every game, then you just havent played (at least at a high level). He shoulda went over and stepped in the guy for being such a snowflake. With an act like that I can assure you that the guy doesnt have the set of attachments that he acted as if got injured. Silly move to make by the Ghost ? Clearly....but happens in every game. Someday that guys grandkids will see the video of grandpa taking a fall and wonder what grandma ever saw in him and why she married such a wimp.

Totally agree. I played the clip about six times the other night, thinking I HAD to be missing something. Worst call ever ---which resulted in a suspension ...wow

Love that we are aligned on this....I watched the first part of the video like 4 times trying to find the penalty and just couldnt even figure out where it came from as the guy didnt have someone within 10 feet of him when he just fell. My father had a line - "stop your whining / crying, or I'll give you something to cry about !". That guy needed an absolute beating for that dive. I hope that every team and the refs have his number going forward....he deserves it.

As for the Ghost - kids a stud. Love the way he plays. As I have said before - wish he was ours. Great for Union to have him, and wish him all the best....as long as he has an off night against the 'tute !!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Finally, someone who knows how the game is played -- and NOT JUST BY WE CANADIANS! ;) :D

This is one of the best posts I've ever seen on here. I have to wholeheartedly agree with you, WS, and Steve P. What Ghost did was dumb and unnecessary, but nowhere else besides the World Juniors is the penalty on that play anything more than two minutes.

If he doesn't have those attachments, how is he going to have grandkids? ;)

It wasnt even a 2 minute penalty. It happens 50 times a game all over the ice. The kid who faked being injured is whats wrong with hockey.

He is as clean and classy a player as they come

Absolutely my impression of him as well. +1 on weighing in and absolutely agree. If you as a player can't handle that hidden stuff that happens in every game, you need to find a different sport (even to watch).

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

I've got to say that Ghost had a look of total bewilderment after the call and before being sent to the locker room. In any event, that's history at this point. Go "U"SA.

I guess I didn't word my post right, as I was in no way trying to insinuate that Ghost was a dirty player in any way. This is the first "penalty" I can even recall him taking since he's come to Union outside of hooks/trips/interference types of penalty. I will also add that there's a reason why Ghost is where he is at this point in his career and a reason why the Matis clown is where he is at this point in his career (hockeydb him, I didn't realize that the Slovak talent pool had dropped so far).
