Union Hockey 2011 Off Season Thread-"Union, We've Paid Our Dues"

Re: Union Hockey 2011 Off Season Thread-"Union, We've Paid Our Dues"

Congratulations to U's Men's lacrosse team, Liberty League champions after defeating RPI 8-7 in double OT. The win brings with it qualification for the NCAA championship. My apologies for going off topic, but I figured I could get a pass since they do use sticks. ;) http://unionathletics.com/news/2011/5/8/MLAX_0508110503.aspx

I am sure there is no going off topic on any thread when it includes another victory over your cross town rival!!;)

Re: Union Hockey 2011 Off Season Thread-"Union, We've Paid Our Dues"

I was very much afraid of this.. recruit forward Drew Brown of Kent has disappeared from Heisenberg's list and there is a rumor on the PC thread that "a Union recruit" may be following Leaman.. there is also the possibility that Brown is following a linemate of his at Kent that previously committed to PC.. IMO Brown may have been the best forward U had coming in next season.. this would really suck swampwater!!

I hate to tell you that your fears will come to fruition. However, move on. If he was going to Union based on the Coach, he did choose correctly to begin with!

Huh?

Anyway, I think this probably happens quite often when a coach leaves. I don't recall having seen Brown's name recently so maybe his defection was already in the works. It looks like Nate is still leaving his imprint on the program. Keep in mind also, that he would have been willing to take Rick Bennett with him also had Rick not been hired as quickly as he was which would have left Union with no coaching staff whatsoever. No wonder he had a tough time looking his players in the eye. :(

Re: Union Hockey 2011 Off Season Thread-"Union, We've Paid Our Dues"

What I meant was that when a potential recruit is going through the process of choosing a school to further their academic/athletic careers, whether the school has what they want to study should be the first criteria to satisfy - academics. I know this isn't always the case, and some choose because of the coaching staff as the first priority. The coaching staff is important, but due to unforseen circumstances, may not spend the full four years of one's career behind the bench.

Heck, can you imagine how the incoming recruits and players with years left at Princeton are feeling.......that program will have a brand new coaching staff!

I notice that Julien Laplante (G) is not on C.H. site either, although he is listed as going to Union on the AJHL site

For some reason he never made the main list on Heisenberg's though he is on the "New Additions" front page and the AJHL sub-page. I think it is pretty solid that he is coming, since with Kinkaid gone he now has an A1 opportunity to get playing time on a pretty good D-1 team.. still I'll feel more confident when the official announcement of recruits is made.

Unless you guys are the 4th team in the Catamount Cup, I believe your games with LSSU fell through, because they are up to 32 non-exempt + the Catamount Cup.

I think you are correct, I have heard nothing about LSSU of late.

LSSU fans had just posted their schedule over on their thread, and one of their fans put it up on my master schedule.

I think for at least one of us the game with UNH will fall through, since right now, if they do play both of us, they'd be overbooked.

Any confirmation regarding a date for a possible third game between us?

Heisenberg now has Drew Brown listed as going to PC. Hopefully this is a bit of a special case where one of Brown's teammates (and possible friend) had previously committed to PC, so there were a few reasons to make the switch.. but still sucks.

I've heard that Jason Tapp and Joseph Dumais from UCONN will be the assistant coaches for the Dutch.
