Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

Saw that, I guess they need two others to at least make it look competitive. ;)

Here's a question, do the home teams retain the playoff ticket revenues or are they split?

The ticket revenues are split with the league, since the league is paying for visiting team meals/lodging.

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get off early from work on Friday so I will have to drive up on Saturday and stay until Sunday (if necessary). I look forward to standing on the top step of the student section like I did back in the good old days (two years ago).

It's a pretty creative strategy by Appert... I'll hand him that much.

Donato's a legitimate contender. Harvard was picked 12th by the media and 7th by the coaches but finished 3rd. Jones is their throw-in pick.

But, yes, it's very much Bennett's to lose. Having three straight CotY wins would be an impressive program achievement.

I don't know what's so creative about it, as it is a "road game" technically. I wonder if there are bylaws in the ECAC that if a team is a certain distance geographically, the ECAC will not be responsible for travel and the costs would be the responsibility of the school traveling.

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

I guess that's how RPI can afford to pretend they're on the road this weekend. :D

Pretending? It's a half hour drive from one school to the other. Are the regular season games between the two not considered "on the road" for the travelling team? Where is the "it's not on the road anymore" line drawn? Not trying to be sarcastic, asking a legitimate question here :)

I think the argument at hand is that RPI typically commutes to Messa, similar to how they would commute to HFH (albeit on a bus), during the regular season, while this weekend they will be making a road trip to Schenectady where they will be lodging somewhere in the area. The itinerary will likely be almost exactly the same as if they were going to Cornell, Harvard, or anywhere else in the league away from the Capital District.

There's no pretending about it. It's a road trip.

Rangers at Devils, Devils at Islanders, Phantoms at ADevils are road games but road in those cases really just means who has the home crowd, home ice, etc. Obviously it's a matter of semantics and a team can try to create whatever atmosphere it deems most beneficial when 'on the road". Clearly that seems to be what RPI is trying to do here. If I recall in a similar circumstance, when Union played at the TU Center two years ago, I am pretty sure they stayed at the team hotel in Albany.

I would argue that Rangers @ Devils and Rangers @ Islanders are home games for the Rangers with the exception of last change. :)

I think I know who you mean. He's had a tough go of it and it will be great to have him back.

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

Wow! What a game....No more 5-1 victories this time around....I thought RPI played with a lot of jump and seemed to get better as the game went on....
However, The special teams comes through again, even with allowing the shortie in the 3rd.

Looking forward to Game 2!

Keith.
