Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

Union faithful, I was wondering if anyone had any insight into why Welsh and Jooris line was separated against Princeton? Does it look like it's going to be a permanent change?

I'm hoping for a good game on Saturday (instead of the laugher in Troy a couple weeks ago). If there's anyone not heading up to the game, I'll see you on the game thread.

Actually the that line had been split up several games back, can't quite remember when specifically. Carr, Jooris and Welsh had not been clicking so the coach probably felt it was probably time for a change. Goaltending situation is still not clear. It's at least conceivable that Pieri will be an emergency starter. Not sure he's ready for prime time since he has yet to see any game action.

Looking at collegehockeystats' box scores, it looks like they played together up until the Brown game, where all three of them were put on different lines. But, after Welsh got back from his suspension for the facemasking against Brown, Welsh and Jooris were put back together, with a random third forward playing the other wing, but against Princeton on Saturday, Welsh and Jooris were centering separate lines.

I was hoping to try and read Bennett's mind for my PtC picks, but I guess I'll just have to wait until the line chart is posted on Saturday.

So that's it? Has beating RPI become so old hat that there's no buzz here? Well as far as I'm concerned wuppin the Troy Boys never gets old. ;)

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

It was kind of a ho-hum game, though a little better than the game in Troy from an entertainment standpoint. I was somewhat surprised to see some of those guys play yesterday, but that's good. Has to be kind of deflating for Pieri not to get on there against a last place team when the two goalies ahead of him have been sick/banged up. It may end up having been his best chance of the season to play. Hatch's goal was a thing of beauty - the best goal I've seen Union score all year.

Never having been to Lake Placid before, I left thinking it was the best rink in the region (be it Messa, HFH, TU, GFCC). Great place to watch a game, comfortable seating with ample room. Good sized concourse. It made me wonder why the ECAC ever left. The wide ice wasn't as drastic as I would have thought. Great little town, though it was a little too cold/windy to do much exploring.

This was the view I had from section 7: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/265/1000368x.jpg/

Maybe the best moment of the night was some guy in a Union jersey winning a car: http://youtu.be/3OEqtCEZIIE (video has no sound). Miracle on Ice II?

i'd assume bennett wanted grosenick to see some ice time after being out sick before facing a tough merrimack next weekend

I was actually impressed that beating the last place team suddenly wasn't such a big deal. Oops.

Trust me, we never thought twice about beating last place Union for 15 years. You'll get used to it, but probably not.

They won't have enough time to get used to it. :)

So has RPI become the "old" Union?

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

I really am not a fan of the "OOC" meetings between U and RPI. I think it diminishes the intensity of the meetings somewhat.

*looks to the last time we were in this situation, or at least darn close to it, and looks at the March record*

No.

Not even close to that situation......this year is unique.....record setting to be exact!
