Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

Not sure we have regressed quite so far as back to the Hull era, but there is surely some work to be done. As much as this hurts, with a bounce or two this could have been a 0 or a 4 point weekend too. Still and all a hugely disappointing end to the weekend. Hard to juxtapose this with the Michigan win only a week ago. What a tough game this is. :(

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

To only get 2 points this weekend is a major letdown. Sure, Union was playing without a few key guys, but Princeton and Quinnipiac were something like a combined 3-9-1 in league play entering this weekend. A team contending for the league championship would march in there and come out with 4 points. They now have ties in 33% of their games so far this year. They almost have as many ties (5) as wins (7).

This isn't as bad as losing to Brown at home, but it's still pretty bad. And Union had the Princeton game in their pocket only to fold like a chair. They've had problems "sealing the deal" - they also lost 3rd period leads in both ties to WMU earlier this year, though what happened today is considerably more damming than that. I'm not seeing the killer instinct in this team or much of a championship mettle. Going into Michigan and winning 6-3 certainly qualifies as a "good win," but even then they had issues in third, getting outshot 17-5 and letting Michigan score 2 of their 3 goals then (they also had another waived off). But not getting 2 points in games like this weekend or against Brown at home or at Niagara certainly qualify as missed opportunities. In a few months, Union will really wish they had those points.

Notice from the Union website regarding the Fenway game -

"AS OF SATURDAY, DECEMBER 3RD AT 1:00 PM, WE HAVE SOLD OUT OUR BLOCK OF TICKETS FOR THIS GAME. PLEASE CHECK BACK ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 5TH, AS WE WILL POST ANY ADDITIONAL TICKET AS THEY BECOME AVAILABLE."

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

Kudos to former Union coach Nate Leaman, who led Providence to back to back wins against Merrimack this weekend. Merrimack was the top ranked team on USCHO and the losses were the first of the season for Merrimack. In the second game, Providence's Drew Brown, who initially committed to Union, scored twice and assisted on another goal.

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

While disappointing and you never like to see a 3 goal lead disappear, I wouldn't call this weekend a disaster considering the team was missing their best d-man and goaltender. The team made a nice comeback on Friday and by all reports had the edge in play in the 3rd period & OT. Having M. Bodie on the PP late on Friday might have meant a W.. Saturday was the opposite, but sitting on a 3 goal lead on the road in the 3rd period is not uncommon - though hopefully the team learns from this.

Overall 8 points in 7 league games (5 on the road) isn't terrible and technically U is tied for 3rd, though there are 8 other teams with 6-8 points. There is a big separation from Cornell & Colgate who are 5 & 4 points ahead, so a lot would have to happen for U to get back in the Cleary Cup chase, but in my book the goal is to make top 4, and couple 4 point weekends in January would get U back in control of their fate. Also helps that U has a game in hand on most other league teams and has a majority of home games.

My bigger concern is getting everyone healthy and the teamwork more cohesive. It seemed to be building after the Michigan win, but obviously has taken a step back. Would also warn against reading too much into the win in Ann Arbor. UM barely split this past weekend up in Alaska and is firmly entrenched in the bottom half of the CCHA.. to be honest I'm still not sure what kind of team U is. The talent definitely is there, but consistency, particularly on offense, seems to be an issue. The next 4 games should tell us a lot and I'm hoping for at least a couple Ws to help the PWR before league grind starts.

You can post the kudos on the Friars link......this thread is for Union hockey!:)

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

Schott's usually great, but the stuff about K.Bodie and Grosenick was here before I saw Schott come out with it. I guess we have our own Deep Throat among us.

I wish I knew the games were going to be shown online for free when tickets went on sale at the end of August. May have saved myself 50 bucks, but I've never been to the rink in Lake Placid and I've never seen a Clarkson/St. Lawrence rivalry game, so hopefully it will be an exciting doubleheader to see in person. It's a good way to break up a prolonged lull in Union games to go to.

Will also be up in lake placid this weekend....

Now for the Fenway/Harvard game in Jan....

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 Season Thread "We Can See Cleary Now"

When I was at the RPI game, I overheard a few people raving about how great Lake Placid is to see a game. We'll have to see if the wide ice (200x100) has any impact on the game.

I managed to get a "club level" seat for Fenway, but have no idea where exactly that's located. Does anyone know where exactly those seats are in Fenway? If you look at Boston's seating page for Red Sox games, there's no "club level" seating mentioned.

In other news, Rick Bennett will be on Coach's Corner Live tomorrow 12/7 at 6 PM on 1160/1240 AM and teamline.cc. Looks like people in attendance at Bomber's could win some pretty good prizes, including tickets for the RPI clash this weekend in Lake Placid. Details here.

"Club level" is in the State Street Pavilion, which is the "upper deck" of Fenway and spans the infield. You should have good, unobstructed sight lines for the game.

Can anyone help a Minnesotan out, how can I watch the game online for free?

Thanks

Im from Minnesota and i watch every game but pay for them so I have no clue how you can watch them for free.

As for Grosenick he has not practiced at all this week. Also sounds like Stevens hasn't been practicing as well. Pieri has been the only goalie in the nets along with a shooter tutor.

This week's Slap Schotts with Brian Unger can be downloaded/played here.

Schott reports that Rick Bennett will be at the Recovery Sports Grill in Rotterdam tonight.
