Union Hockey 2011-2012 season thread #2

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 season thread #2

Congrats Union! You have a bunch of fans in RPI TV who will be following you throughout the NCAAs!

Videos on Demand are trickling up. Video from the final is available here: http://www.rpitv.org/productions/452-ecac-final-harvard-vs-union. It's currently only available at 2800kbps (more bitrates are being encoded), so if you have a slower-ish connection it's probably best to wait until tomorrow or so to take a look. We'll have the Semifinal up either Monday or Tuesday as well.

Wow, had I known the quality would be this good, I might not have made the trip down to AC. ;)

Just kidding, but this is really great stuff. Amazing quality and I think all ECAC fans owe you many thanks!

Go get em Union! I hope you can take your special season to the Frozen Four. It's time for an ECAC team to get there

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 season thread #2

...

Also, raise your hand if you ever thought you would read this headline, "Boston College, Michigan, Union and North Dakota get No. 1 seeds in the 2012 NCAA tournament".

Really amazing and a huge credit to Union. Now, enough with the credit, let's see them play their way to Tampa!

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 season thread #2

Again I say congrats and go far and make us proud !! I am looking forward to watching the game Friday. It doesn't get much better than making the NCAA's !!! Good luck !

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 season thread #2

I saw Michigan State play twice this year at the Ice Breaker, and although that may givea false sens eof the team as they started off to a slower start, I like the matchup for Union. MSU didn't strike me as an overly physical team, which U often struggles with, and Air Force and BC both easily outskated MSU. I expect Union will have just as much of an advantage in that department.

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 season thread #2

Even though this is our second consecutive NCAA appearance, I'm not taking any of this for granted. I hope everyone who can do so takes advantage of this opportunity to get to Bridgeport. It's really not a bad drive and an overnight isn't necessary, though of course I hope it will be for the boys. We had a great showing at AC and I know the team appreciated the turnout. I hope to see many of the U faithful in Bridgeport.

Union ranked 3rd in USCHO and USA Today polls. Highest ever in both.

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 season thread #2

Imagine the past few Union teams without Jeremy Welsh. That could have easily been the reality.

Yet as integral to Union's success Welsh has been — all season and this weekend — he almost didn't come.

When Bennett was recruiting Jeremy Welsh, former head coach Nate Leaman was skeptical. But Bennett pushed for him and Leaman allowed his assistants the leeway.

"I give Nate a lot of credit — when it actually went down, for listening," Bennett said. "It's not easy for a head coach to give 100 percent full faith in a guy."

Nice Article!

On espn.go.com there is a video with commentary, by that well informed college hockey analyst Barry "The Greasy Mullet" Melrose. Melrose picks Union as the sleeper of the tourney. However, his endorsement may ring a litle hollow since he didn't seem to know Union College team is the fighting............pause.....Union........uh.......
At least he didn't call you Irish.;)

Maybe an email campaign stating simply "Hey Mullet, It's the Union College Dutchmen."

I'm guessing it was more of a temporary lapse. If I recall correctly, Melrose lives or at least lived near Glen Falls NY and had been known to stop in on Union and RPI games when home.

Sadly, I'll miss the Friday game. Well, sort of...I won't be able to make the trip, but will watch it on TV. However, should there be a Saturday game, I will make the trek from Clifton Park.

This is kinda surreal - watching all of the awards come in and all of the accolades from other teams' fans and even The Mullet himself makes me proud to see what these boys have done over the past few years to get to this point.

Praise from The Mullet is a kiss of death. He has no idea what he's talking about when it comes to college hockey. ;)

I'm not expecting much, except for the ECAC to be represented well. Best of luck.
