Union Hockey 2011-2012 season thread #2

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 season thread #2

Single for Opening Day Yankees vs. Rays on Friday

I have one extra in section 119 row TT for Friday's home opener at the Trop. Price depends on demand. Will also consider a trade for a single all session ticket. Send me a PM through USCHO if interested.

Another TU story, this one about team psychologist, Wally Bzdell. I always wondered who that guy was who went to/from the radio booth area each period... it was him.
I went to Union when Wally was there...Good egg...I'm happy he is still involved with the hockey program.....He also was involved with Nikki Stone's career when she won Gold in the Winter Olympics.....

Re: Union Hockey 2011-2012 season thread #2

Another TU article, this time about former coaches Sneddon and Leaman. Leaman said he doesn't look back about leaving Union, but he may make a trip to the Frozen Four. Interestingly, Sneddon thinks Union now has a bigger recruiting budget than he does at Vermont. The infamous Roger Hull quote about winning 40% of the games also makes an appearance... the writer has since posted on Twitter that Hull called and claimed he was being taken out of context. I bet...

And if there wasn't enough reading material already, a story about Colin Stevens biding his time behind Grosenick.

Bennett on Stevens -

"He has a tremendous upside," Bennett said. "He's younger. His ceiling is a lot higher. I think once he starts to really focus on his body, getting bigger and stronger, I don't see why he can't do the same things that Troy did and Keith Kinkaid did."

I'm leaving for Tampa tomorrow afternoon and the butterflies are already kicking in.

Who else on here is going and what is everyone's travel plans? Let's go U!

At this level its going to be about which team stays focussed, ignores the limelight and wants the win. Any of these teams can win it all. I don't buy the BC/Minnesota victor will rule. Ferris and Union have played and beat too many "Powers" this year to be impressed. Since January 1,

UNION is scoring 3.95 goals/game and holding opponents to 1.66 goals/game (21 games)
B.C is scoring 3.54 goals/game and holding opponents to 1.67 goals/game (22 games)
Ferris is scoring 3.29 goals/game and holding opponenest to 2.24 goals/game (21 games)
Minnesota is scoring 3.05 goals/game and holding opponenst to 2.29 goals/game (21 games)

League play is a hard one to call. I think this year the leaguse are more evenly matched. In the Playoffs thus far:

ECAC 3-1
WCHA 4-3
Hockey East 3-3
CCHA 2-4

My guess would be that "This Year" the ECAC has gotten more competitive and the CCHA less so and HE and WCHA are just tough again. Who is going to take it? Which team wants it more. Which team has acid in the gut. Goaltenders and Defense and Depth are all great but which teams wants it so badly they can taste it. I don't know? None of the teams are playing like they want to go home anytime soon.

Union are a bunch of pros. They got the mental toughness for sure. They have the skill to win, however there is no way they can let in goals like the second UMASS-Lowell one and hope to take this thing. Good thing they got that type of thing out of their system two weeks ago.

Hope to be in town in time to get to U's open practice at 12:15. After that nothing specific. Staying at the Marriott across from the arena. Going to the pregame Thursday and Yankees Rays opener on Friday. A friend down there already said he has seen the arena with huge posters of players on the side. He said it almost brought tears to his eyes. This is really getting good.

I think this little story is going to end up in this week's Sports Illustrated - http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1196880/index.htm

Though, I disagree with the line about Union being a "long shot" to win it all. Nobody who gets to the Frozen Four is a long shot.

Agree with that. Also I am just in the first paragraph so far and wondering how they got their rankings. They seem to be mixing up national rankings and seedings, and I don't know how they got #4 for Ferris.
