Union College Dutchmen Hockey 2010-11: There's one way and that's to Atlantic City!

Re: Union College Dutchmen Hockey 2010-11: There's one way and that's to Atlantic Cit

Anyway, No. 7 in USCHO. That seems a bit more realistic to me.
It typically seems that the top 10 in USCHO usually mimics PWR pretty closely with a team never being more then +/- 1 in the poll with respect to PWR. U is 7 in PWR as in the poll.

I thought Yale would drop more, but given that they are top in PWR, there they hang in at #3.

Merrimack is moving like a run-away freight train. Another nice success story.

I never thought I would see a top-10 team, much less number 7?! Nice job, and keep it up. I just hope they don't start reading their own press releases.

I really don't see this happening. After the loss to Dartmouth last month, Nate made a comment referring to how players can start believing they're good enough when they're told that over & over (or something to that effect). I think that was his way of indirectly telling the players to stay away from the newspapers. They haven't lost since then.

Fun Fact:

Union is #4 on offense in the nation (3.72 goals per game).
Union is #1 on defense in the nation (2.06 goals allowed per game).
Union has the #1 power play in the nation, converting on 31% of opportunities (42-137).

Union is also one of four teams to not yet score a shorthanded goal. Neither has UAH, Colgate, or UMASS, which is quite surprising given how you have done on special teams.

I had noticed that, it's kind of quirky and I think Union has also given up a bunch of shorthanded goals.

It is nice to see the team getting some of the attention they deserve. They are a great group of young men led by three great coaches. Let's hope they bring the right attitude to SLU and Clarkson this weekend!!

Does anyone have an idea of how tiebreakers work in the standings or perhaps a link that would address this?

If you take a look at the ECAC playoff scenario thread, that should have your procedures.

Re: Union College Dutchmen Hockey 2010-11: There's one way and that's to Atlantic Cit

I believe the only way Union does not get a bye is if there is a 3 way tie with RPI Dartmouth and Union.

From the ECAC home stretch post:
Union almost clinches a bye. If it's a two-way tie between the two Capital District teams, then the Dutchmen would hold onto 4th place based on points vs Top 4 teams (7 v 6 based on their sweep of Cornell and their single point against Dartmouth as opposed to RPI sweeping Dartmouth and getting swept by Cornell). A 3-way tie between Dartmouth, RPI, and Union sees RPI taking 3rd place on head-to-head points (6 v 3 v 3) and Dartmouth would win the 4th-place tiebreaker because they took 3 points during the season series.

That's the only scenario that I could find, which is why I posted it as such. Of course, I don't expect Union (or Yale, for that matter) to lose out... but the possibility is there.

Well it's pretty simple now.. it's Union & Yale playing for 1st & 2nd.
