Look at the winners tonight...SLU. Colgate, and Harvard. The Dutchmen looked like they were cruising against a feckless Clarkson team. But "oh no." Yes, they won but nothing can be taken for granted in college hockey. The Potsdam pirates almost stole a treasured two points. Maybe Union is a team of destiny this year but destiny's worst enemy is overconfidence. SLU beat Yale and tagged RPI tonight, setting up another biggie tomorrow night for the Dutchmen. Doubtless, emotions can wax and wane in the seemingly endless season. But at this juncture there is no breathing room. The next three games will tell an interesting tale. Hopefully, tonight was a reminder of an everpresent vulnerability.

Correct. In fact, Union has clinched no worse than 2nd place. I remarked last night that I remember the year that Union and Yale played each other in the final game of the season for 11th place...when the ECAC still only sent 10 teams to the playoffs.

I didn't start listening until the 3rd period, but this sounded like a game that Union should have won 6-0. They missed opportunities, but were thoroughly frustrating Clarkson enough that Clarkson started taking bad penalties.

I think Union lost some composure during Clarkson's flurry, but thankfully recovered enough and escaped with 2 points (and that's the understatement of the year).

Another nice win for the Dutchmen tonight. Zajac and Julseth-White both left the game with injuries in the third, hopefully nothing that would force either to miss any games.

Good game by your guys. St. Lawrence can play with anybody when they're on, but they're not as consistent as the best teams. The instant they started to sputter and lose their edge in the second period, Union just hammered them. By the time SLU started to pull it together, it was over.

Another great weekend sweep.

Interestingly enough, we started the weekend tied for 7th in the pwr. After last night's victory, we were tied for 6th. After tonight's victory, we moved down into a tie for 8th. Go figure.

Let's hope we can end the season with another sweep this weekend to keep the momentum going heading into the playoffs.

I noticed that too. RPI goes 1-1 on the weekend and moves from 14th to 13th, Union sweeps and goes from 7 to 8. I know everything is based on TUC teams, but UMD, NODAK, BC and Denver lost this weekend.

I don't think Union can do anything more the rest of the season to solidify a NCAA spot. A win over QU wont help anything as they are not a TUC team, a win over Princeton might swing the Miami and Notre Dame PWR to our favor, but ND plays Western Michigan, so we would be rooting for 2 ties in that series. Our sweep @ WMU really hurt in the PWR

Odds are whoever we play in the 2nd round wont be a TUC team either, Its either QU, Clarkson, SLU, or Brown right now.

From my estimation, we need to be HUGE Niagara fans the rest of the year, and hope Quinnipiac beats RPI and then sweeps.

Im pumped for playoffs!

Just 2 years ago, none of us could even dream of Union being in the NCAAs and here we are talking about Union's standing in the PWR.

While I do keep tabs on the PWR, I'm more pumped about the ECAC standings. A Yale loss at Princeton today makes Union's magic number for finishing in first place at 2 (another Yale loss or Union win). That's quite an accomplishment (if it happens), considering where this team was 3-4 years ago.

Finishing in first place would be great, but I look at it as more of a bonus. The ULTIMATE goal should and always will be to make the National Tournament and win the National Championship. If we don't make it to the National Tourney after this incredible season that we've had, I would be devastated.

A sweep next weekend should secure you a spot in the NCAAs no matter what happens in the playoffs.

P.S. Who knows, we could be paying you guys a visit in a few weeks.

I don't disagree about the ultimate goal - it should be the goal of every NCAA team. I guess I'm still thinking about baby steps. :)

North Dakota didn't lose this weekend.

#5 in USCHO. Good day for Union Hockey and Union College.

Regarding the PWR it would also help Union if Bemidji were to fall back out of being a TUC. Union fell from 6th to 8th just by Bemidji became a TUC.

That beautifully winged team, Union, almost flew too close to the sun on Friday night. Saturday night witnessed a very credible job in protecting a big lead. With two more games to go the Dutchmen are on the threshold of something really big.

If I had to bet-they will fall out this weekend with a pair against North Dakota on the road. Don't know how much that will help though.

#5- pretty impressive. I'd love a weekend sweep and to see a banner in the rink- maybe then the administration can see to have a new rink built!
