Union College Dutchmen Hockey 2010-11: There's one way and that's to Atlantic City!

Re: Union College Dutchmen Hockey 2010-11: There's one way and that's to Atlantic Cit

I think I held my breath through the whole third period. What a game!!! Let's see some of the same tomorrow night!

Re: Union College Dutchmen Hockey 2010-11: There's one way and that's to Atlantic Cit

Arguably the biggest win that program has had so far. A defining win. The third period was rather nerve wracking but give Union credit for bending and not breaking. Union outplayed them through the first two periods.

The standing room only crowd at Messa got its money's worth tonight and then some. Hopefully Union has something left for Brown tomorrow night, but I expect Union will carry the momentum over and pick up another win.

"If you think your heart can take it, give the bird some juice and turn him loose". This was the biggie... Union is for real! WOW!

Yes, I'd have to agree it's the biggest win in program history. Not the biggest game -- they lost that one in Albany last March -- but the biggest win. The Presizniuk goal to make it 3-1 was so huge, answering right back after Yale made it 2-1. And now Union can say they've beaten every top-ranked team they've hosted. I never thought I'd see the program having this kind of success, sitting through 20-loss seasons not all that long ago.

Congrats on a great win for U. Here's hopin' you took some starch out of Y for us !

oooofffa....that was nice...nerve racking, but nice. Some good stuff overall. Went out strong, grabbed a good lead, only goals given up were on the PP, and the intestinal fortitude to hold on. I'm not real happy with the third as it felt as the boys just went out to sit on it and hold on. I know that Yale turned it up, but it still seemed as if the defensive shell went up and they stopped taking it to Yale. Either way, a resounding "W." If the target wasn't already on the backs of the Dutch, it will be the rest of the way. That might explain the Dartmouth game last week but the better answer is the time honored philosophy that it's ECAC hockey....anything can happen. congrats to Nate and the team.

GoooooooU!

What a great two days!

Knicks beat the Heat at a sold-out MSG and then Union beats #1 Yale at a sold-out Messa!!!

The Knicks had a letdown tonight against a tough Hawks team. Let's hope that Union doesn't follow suit and have a disappointing loss against Brown. Keep the momentum going!!

Re: Union College Dutchmen Hockey 2010-11: There's one way and that's to Atlantic Cit

Wherever Hull is.. 40% my A$S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How bout them apples!! I'd call that the best win in U's history.. and a heck of a game by both teams. Great atmosphere and finally a BIG WIN:). Huge congrats to the team and coaches!! I think this really validates what Nate has accomplished.. you can count me as someone who never thought I'd ever see anything like this from a Union team.

As much as the 3rd period had me in constant fear, now that I've calmed down I'm glad that Yale showed their A game in that period. It would have just seemed like an off night for the Eli if they hadn't. I was thinking the game was going to end like last year's home game with Yale (or worse), but the boys dug deep and won enough of the important puck battles in the 3rd to pull it out. One big thing was winning some key faceoffs down the stretch - Yale killed them in the 3rd last year. A very sharp effort by the entire team and was very impressed, and also a little surprised after last weekend's mostly sloppy effort. Kinkaid was outstanding and great to see Prez snap one in. He could really be the missing link now that he has the pin removed from his hand.. thought he had a couple shots last weekend that he just couldn't get any juice on. Wasn't aware that the coaches only played 5 d-men in the last period (benched Forgaard) until heard it on the radio after the game, but may explain a bit why U was a step slow in the 3rd. Hopefully Ingoldsby gets back soon.

Whew.. no time to rest though. Tomorrow's game with Brown is very important (they are currently a TUC) and is the classic letdown game. The team will need a similar consistent and sharp effort to get another 2 points.

Well done... though now they're going to be PO'd for Freakout... crap...

Great win over Yale*. Brown wins tonight, but it was glorious to see Union hold on in that third period last night. Union will represent the ECAC well in the NCAAs this year. Good work.

We noticed that Forgaard was benched after his first shift. In fact, I don't even remember him being on the ice at all until the raising of the sticks after the game. Apparently, he made a bad decision that led to a Yale scoring chance and didn't see the ice again. Combined with his bad weekend last week, his playing time seems to be in some jeopardy. I know Ingoldsby is still hurt, but is there any chance we see a new defenseman in Forgaard's place tonight?

I fear a bit of a letdown...only because the boys put out one hell of a physical game and were really starting to suck wind by the end of the 3rd. I have a feeling we'll see a few lineup changes tonight to get some fresh legs out there.

Re: Union College Dutchmen Hockey 2010-11: There's one way and that's to Atlantic Cit

Traveled up from DC for my first UC hockey game. Great Game! UC played with tons of energy for the first 2 periods. Yale is not overrated. Any intellegent hockey fan knew when the Bullgogs came out for the 3rd UC was in for a fight. Great crowd and loud, but a small old barn. UC is a good program but sure need to upgrade if they want to be an elite program. I give their coaching staff a ton of credit with recuriting to that place. Let's see what the team and the crowd is like tonight against Brown.

I didn't notice that he was benched in the 1st either:rolleyes:.. Forgaard has struggled this year after being mostly ok last season. He is a little jumpy with his decision making and doesn't do well when things get physical, so not exactly a good combo for Brown. It is a bit of a dilemma if Ingoldsby isn't ready to play, as they really need some fresh legs on the blue line after last night. Reid and Bergeron are obviously options, but they haven't played much at all in the last 2 years and would be a risk against Harry Z & company. Don't know if there are any forwards that could move to blueline.. I know K. Bodie played D early in his youth hockey days but that could be a real stretch too. My guess is that Forgaard will dress and they coaches will keep him on a short leash. Would definitely expect Cain tonight and maybe even Boileau.

Re: Union College Dutchmen Hockey 2010-11: There's one way and that's to Atlantic Cit

That was epic especially when the futility of the this program a few short years ago is taken into consideration. I'm almost at the point where I can put those nightmare seasons in the rear view mirror for good. But this game and this league is so darn tough that nothing can be taken for granted which is why tonight's is almost as big a game as last night's.

I think Union's first period was the best period I can remember seeing in a long time if not ever, and the second wasn't far behind. I was concerned that the energy they were expending could leave them gassed in the third particularly, as Yale has owned that period this season. I really thought that as much as Yale turned it on Union looked somewhat spent and is what made the third period so difficult. It looked to me like there were some tired legs out there but they weathered the storm. I didn't remember seeing Forgaard at all during the game so I figured that was going to be tough on the D's energy level as well. U is really thin at D with Ingoldsby out seemingly indefinitely. He did come back for two games a few weeks ago and I'm wondering if this was a mistake and he wasn't ready or if he was reinjured. These concussive injuries are scary things. The last thing you want to see is one of these young kids risking permanent injury.

Great atmosphere and really really loud last night. Each time Yale scored, the crowd was on its feet pumping up the home team. I of course agree with the earlier post as I've mentioned before, Messa needs replacement or a major league upgrade. I have a feeling that something may happen there sooner than may be thought, at least I hope so.

Re: Union College Dutchmen Hockey 2010-11: There's one way and that's to Atlantic Cit

"It's not anything they did at all, O’Neill said. “We just didn't work hard enough."

Way to be a gracious loser.

Would you expect any different from a player coached by Allain? It's never about anything an opponent did right, rather always something Yale did wrong.

Case in point - after RPI shutout Yale 4-0 last January, Allain had this to say: “I don’t know if it was as much about them. We just weren’t good enough tonight in any facet of the game. We didn’t have a very good first period. We came back and were better in the second and then they get that goal late after we’ve just had a nice penalty kill and we didn’t respond very well to that. Obviously, our power play wasn’t very effective and we just got worn down at the end.”
