UNH Wildcats 2015 Offseason - Future Planning ...or Just Rearranging the Deck Chairs?

Yes it was an amazing series to be sure! Apparently JvR and BvR arrived with 8 mins to go as they had travel issues. At least they got to see him hoist the Cup. Unbelievable!!

Bummer that TVR's bros missed most of the game. Looking forward to BvR's arrival in Durham a year from September. Most amazing hockey family since the Sutter's?

And, Ben Bishop played games 5 and 6 with a torn groin, and ? with a broken wrist?

I believe Tyler Johnson had the broken wrist...

Tell me you're joking. Have you heard of the Staal family?

Re: UNH Wildcats 2015 Offseason - Future Planning ...or Just Rearranging the Deck Cha

At this decidedly early point in the run of the xvR's, I'm thinking you don't have to leave Hockey East to find a better claim.

1,320 goals - Sutter brothers (Brian, Brent, Daryl, Duane, Ron & Rich - last two twins)
913 goals - Hull brothers (Bobby and Dennis - excluding Bobby's WHA goals. Bobby's son Brett added 741)
902 goals - Richard brothers (Maurice "Rocket" and Henri "Pocket Rocket")
895 goals - Gretzky brothers (Wayne had 894, Brent had 1, and Keith never made the show)
823 goals - Stastny brothers (Peter, Anton and Marian)
821 goals - Mahovlich brothers (Frank and Pete)
762 goals - Mullen brothers (Joe and Brian)
538 goals - Sedin twins (Daniel and Henrik)
521 goals - Broten brothers (Neal, Aaron and Paul)
495 goals - Staal brothers (Eric, Jordan, Jared, Marc)
411 goals - Kariya brothers (Paul 402 and Steve 9 - Marty never got to the NHL)
276 goals - Gionta brothers (Brian and Stephen)

122 goals - van Riemsdyk brothers (all JvR so far @ NHL level)

40 goals - "Hanson Brothers" - Jack Carlson, Jeff Carlson, Steve Carlson and Dave Hanson (as "Jack") in real life :D

So the van Riemsdyks have the Hanson Brothers beaten (goals-wise anyway) so far. :D

Oh, yeah, how could I forget the Staal's! There must be others also, and of course, BvR is not there yet, but wishful thinking here.

Hey think about it brother James is a star in his own right a 30 plus goal scorer for the Leafs making decent $$ and has been to his own Stanley Cup games..TvR gets the nod from a coach who just might have a clue in his ability...brother BvR will be here soon enough . Don't know where I read this but it's been speculated that BvR could be the surprise of the 3 bros!
UNH is more than fortunate that the vR fam thinks highly enough of the program to send all 3 sons there. I admit while I don't know this other fam mentioned I'd say we have a pretty cool thing happening here! Plenty to be proud of!!

Sure those are very impressive stats you put up Chuck to be sure. Still it's cool that UNh has their share of excellent players who have made their mark in the Pro's... Here's to the vR fam continuing that legacy!

Ps Really Chuck? We have a kid who just won the freaking Stanley Cup after a year of uncertainty...and the best you can do is compare him to those those yahoos in slap shot?!? Tsk Tsk...

Change of topic....has anyone received their season ticket renewal info? I thought that they were sent out in early June, but haven't heard a peep yet.

Scott how do they normally contact for renewal? Email? Someone told me that it won't be until late July this comes out but don't hold me to it...

Nice story. I like the photo of the three of them on the ice.

I mean, who woulda thunk all of this would come to pass given what he has gone through. Still remember that fateful evening Jan 18 v Union. Onto the parade tomorrow!!

A decade or so ago, this was the same thing we heard from the UMaine-iacs about little brother Martin Kariya. As it turned out, the best was first, the second best was second ... and the third best was arguably a sister who played lacrosse at UMaine IIRC. :D I'm hoping BvR breaks that pattern, but I suspect it'll hold here as it did with the Kariyas (minus a female vR).

JvR stayed 2 years ... TvR stayed 3 years ... here's to hoping BvR stays all four. :)

Elaborating on what I said in the last blurb above ... and I totally understand this is probably a minority opinion ... but I honestly do not get too worked up following kids who left UNH early to turn pro. It's just an old-fashioned loyalty thing to me. If a player sticks around for all four years of eligibility, then those are the players I really pull for - Krog, Mowers, Bogey, Saviano, Ayers, Flanagan, Ralph Cox, Francis, Gould, Souza, Haydar, Moses, Desimone, Downing, etc. - to make a mark in the pros. Some of those guys made it - briefly, or for extended periods - and most did not. But my primary focus has always been how these guys performed for the UNH cause, and not how they fared in the pro ranks. Saviano (for example) may never have even gotten close to a sniff at the NHL, but I'll always remember him FAR more favorably than either of the vR's to date, simply because he was an integral part of some great UNH teams, which is something none of the vR's can claim ... up to this point. Again, here's to hoping BvR leaves a lasting mark at UNH with future teams.

First of all, and with all due respect ... TvR was part of a Stanley Cup-winning team. Good for him, and mucho respect for working his way back after last season's horrendous season-ending injury. But basically saying "(he) just won the Stanley Cup" kinda overstates his importance in the overall scheme of things in Chicago (at least at this early stage of his career), don't you think HR? I'm not saying that TvR won't go on to have a successful NHL career in the future - maybe he will, maybe he won't (I'll guess here he carves out a 5-10 year career as a second or third pairing guy). But right now, he is along for the ride, and although it's one of the best rides you can probably ever imagine being on, he is still just a passenger on that ride. Unless you truly believe his presence turned the tide of the series?

Secondly, tsk tsk on you for ever casting aspersions upon the greatness that was/is the Hanson Brothers. Putting aside the scoring list of NHL brothers, I'd still dare to say the "Hansons" are the most (in)famous brother act in the history of pro hockey. :p

Of course I know TvR's place in the grand scheme of thing regarding this Cup win by the Blackhawks...just think it is one heck of an accomplishment that has been a joy to witness. Anytime UNH gets any kind of "plug" heck, as a fan I'll take it! What's wrong with showing team pride? Loved hearing "the New Hampshire product". Here's hoping BvR carves out some good stuff for us when he arrives. And as for your Hanson bros, well, it's been awhile since I've watched "Slapshot"... ;)
