Re: UNH Wildcats - '10 Playoff Edition

Glad to see that many UNH fans are enjoying the weekend and traveling to Albany....wish I had the $$ and energy to do as I did in the past but ESPNU will have to do...remember to keep up the noise no matter the game situation. In 77, as we were trying to hold onto the lead against Wisconsin, the players were exhausted and needed to hear the fans keeping up the energy level....it DOES make a difference! Hopefully the Cats enjoyed themselves last night and will want to play the exact same game tonight.... keep their skates moving, and be strong in their D-end...Enjoy the game and MAKE SOME NOISE!!

Re: UNH Wildcats - '10 Playoff Edition

we certainly do need more support , my guess there will be three times as much tonight , not that yesterdays attendance was any consolation

Bank on it! If the ride was not 650 miles from Detroit to Albany, I would have driven it today. As it is... just too far... so ESPNU it is! GO CATS!!

Re: UNH Wildcats - '10 Playoff Edition

Was the UNH - Cornell game not a casting call for a remake of "Somethings Gotta Give" ??

The protagonists:
- Ben Srivens, goalie extraordinaire. Not a puck past him in 3 prior games, and until the Butler goal, 265 minutes of scoreless hockey.
- UNH men's high octane hockey - Held scoreless in prior 2 games, a feat not seen in.. decades?..
- Bobby Butler - Hobey Butler finalist held in check for all too long (Bobby you spoiled us, we now have unecessarily high expectations ).

Plot Line: Surprise Ending: 6 goals in 24 minutes from a UNH team that did not score in the prior 155 minutes against a goalie unscored on in 265 minutes

Costumes: UNH legend Ralph Cox look-alike handlebar mustaches worn by many Wildcats.

Antagonist: Barry 'Big Red Wannabe' Melrose standing tall in ESPN broadcast booth, oozing Cornell platitudes.

- UNH 6 Cornell 2 !!

Somethings Gotta Gives wins Oscar for best college hockey.

Once you make it to the Mass Pike, it's really a breeze getting to Albany. Not a lot of traffic and a scenic ride through the Berkshires is nice. The Time Union Center is easy to get to as well. Plenty of parking. Would love to see even more UNH fans tonight.

If I didnt have a sick 5 year old girl at home, we'd be on our way right now. Make some noise UNH fans! Lets Go Blue!!!

Re: UNH Wildcats - '10 Playoff Edition

Where are all the posters that were saying coach Umile should be fired now? Last April Umile lost JVR, Dries, Bourque, White, and Ried and recovered and led his team to a first place finish in hockey east and an ncaa tournament appearance and still people were calling him a joke of a coach. NCAA watcher is the most fair weathered UNH poster on this board. You have suggested that the coaching staff be replaced more than anyone and u should just find another team to follow!

Here's a newsflash... it was the 1st round. One game doesn't get a national championship or suddenly qualify a coach as elite. Yes they played 1 solid game last night. Let's see that continue. As for loss of talent, last time I checked in college hockey the recruiting and having the talent in house to fill in for what is lost each year is part of the expectation. Over the years Umile's gameplan has been a complete flop against teams with far less talent (see UVM 2 weeks ago) causing early exits from regionals. Last night doesn't trump years of underachievement. Umile is a "good" coach w/ a decent coaching staff who has given us years of solid teams that contend. Naysayers such as Watcher and myself are quite justified to say that we don't believe he and his staff have what it takes to ever get it done and see a national championship. Having higher expectations and desires then just being a contender that "almost" gets it done doesn't make anyone fairweathered or less of a fan or supporter.

Somethin tells me you might be the same person that leaves neg rep over a joke post about having our hearts ripped out by an RIT loss by anonymously dropping f-bomb names.

Great game out of the 'Cats. Here's hoping they can do it again tonight. As I said in the Regional thread, RIT scares me - hot goalie, a team with a TON of confidence, and a relative unknown to UNH.

25-to-1!!!!

i am so smart.

:D :D
It's just one win - you still need them to win 3 more.

(8) My 18-year-old daughter will never forget her trip to the Times Union Center. Yes, she'll remember the big UNH victory but more importantly, from her perspective, she found Jacob Micflikier in the crowd (with the assistance of Darci). He graciously agreed to autograph her UNH jersey - the one with #9 and MICFLIKIER on the back. Jacob's having a solid season with the Albany River Rats of the AHL and he was there to pull for his former team and mates.

Apparently there were a bunch of former Wildcats there. Pretty awesome.

(BTW, I'm sure this has been noted in the alumni thread, but if anyone wants to see a bunch of UNHers play, check out a Las Vegas Wranglers game (ECHL) - Josh Prudden, Greg Collins, Jerry Pollastrone, and Craig Switzer all play for them.)

Re: UNH Wildcats - '10 Playoff Edition

Whatever the longer view issues, winning and advancing will help the program. We can debate the overall complaints later.

Don't overlook RIT.

Agree we go can back to the debates after the season is over, hopefully in 2 weeks :D

No one should be overlooking RIT they looked good yesterday, UNH will need to bury thier chances and play a 60 minute game just like last night. Give them 60 minutes of hell!!!

Re: UNH Wildcats - '10 Playoff Edition

Congrats to UNH on the W versus Cornell. They looked great, much different than the team I saw UVM beat in OT two sundays prior.

I think UNH has a very good shot at running the table if Foster plays well and they move their feet.

I think that extra week off to think things over and rest has more value than anyone realizes. It helped UVM last year and it's going to pay dividends for UNH in this regional.

Good luck to UNH.

Re: UNH Wildcats - '10 Playoff Edition

Denver played like crap on Friday. If UNH moves their feet like they did against Cornell they advance to the frozen four.

apparently Denver overlooked RIT giving UNH a read on their putt. thats the beauty of being the higher seed i guess.

nothing succeeds like success, right?!!

Re: UNH Wildcats - '10 Playoff Edition

Good luck today boys!!

Make it to the Frozen Four and show these westerners what Hockey East is all about again.

Re: UNH Wildcats - '10 Playoff Edition

I'm pretty sure that Umile and the staff will reference the game we lost to Niagara by not playing a solid game.....if only the team could see and use the same energy and desire that we here on the Forum have, there'd be no overlooking RIT.....BTW, Sammy Faber who was one of the all time great skaters for the Lady Wildcats, '09', learned everything from her Dad, Scott who played for RIT.....dinner and beers on the line!

JohnB, it is not the coach that wins the national championship. If it were a 7,5, or even 3 games series I would say otherwise. In a one game elimination tourney things happen, goalies get hot, bad bounce, etc. I do not think anything less of Denver's coach, nothing he could do, ran into a hot goalie and that was that. You say Umile has underachieved in the past, I think you are short sighted and do not realize that he overachieves every year. In the last 15 years the best UNH players are Haydar and Krog, AHL lifers. The guy never gets the same talent as BU, BC, Michigan, Minnesota, etc yet competes with them every year. He takes a bunch of "B" players and makes them "A" college players. Borek knows he does not have the facilities or academics to compete with BC, BU, Mich, etc yet he has the eye to go get the players that the big guys are not on to, Bobby Butler, Mike Radja, etc. Look at the NHLers umile has had compared to those other programs and you say he underachieves? 07 and 08 are years that come to mind, you say they flopped, I say they had no business winning hockey east and being 1 seeds because they did not have near the talent that some other teams had.
