UNH Off Season Thread 2011

Re: UNH Off Season Thread 2011

Although I don't agree with doing away with the GA Season Ticket . . . my seats are $100 cheaper (per seat!) than last years. Hard to argue with that . . .

UNH lost very few STH from last year with the new pricing program, and have already gained 100 new STH. Nicole told me that she was hoping the "New Alumni" discount would help new alums in the chitty economy -- and was also in response to a fair amount of backlash they got from last year, when they had all those games that were $11. She said the new pricing plans for the end seats took that into account.

It's not perfect -- but it does at least seem like UNH was making efforts to listen to the fans. She said, almost verbatim, "We'd rather make a little less profit on seats, and fill the building and be loud." I nearly fainted.

Former 3-time Captain Patrick Foley takes another step in his coaching career:
"New Northeastern Head Coach Jim Madigan has hired Jerry Keefe (Brown) and Patrick Foley (Harvard) as his two assistant coaches"

Wow, glad to hear that, now let's hope and see if it works out.

A buddy of mine who has connections in the box office has passed on the word the there will be a meeting on Thursday between UNH, Maine, UMass and UVM along with HE officials at Fenway. This along with the schedule changes amongst all the Hockey East schools might be a hint that the Fenway deal still has some life in it.

Why do you think the Jan 7th BC game was moved?

Re: UNH Off Season Thread 2011

According to UNHBlog on twitter, January 7th @ Fenway is official. It will count as a home game for Maine.

Re: UNH Off Season Thread 2011

We've known and posted about the almost certainty of the game for over a month now. It's happening.

Re: UNH Off Season Thread 2011

The USHL's official twitter account is reporting that Mike Ayers is the next goaltending coach at the USNTDP, replacing Joe Exter who left for Ohio State. Could Ayers be on the UNH coaching radar as Umile inches closer to retirement and Lassonde entertains offers elsewhere?

With a couple of fan favorites - Mike Ayers and Patrick Foley - advancing in their coaching careers, who knows what might happen down the road. Interesting stuff.

Great to hear that about Butler. Loved watching him play at UNH, his combination of skill, speed, hustle, and positive attitude in one package stood out nearly every time I saw him play.

glad to see his goal scoring touch carry to the show. He should be a part of the ottawa rebuilding process.

Re: UNH Off Season Thread 2011

From USHR: Lassonde Heads West

Longtime UNH assistant David Lassonde is moving to the University of Denver, where he will fill the assistant’s position vacated by Derek Lalonde, who was recently named head coach of the Green Bay Gamblers (USHL).

Lassonde, a Rochester, NH native, has been an NCAA assistant since starting at UNH in 1988. That’s 22 full seasons – 18 of which have been spent at UNH. He also spent three seasons at Wisconsin (’91-94), and three at Miami-Ohio (’94-99).

Like Lalonde, who he is replacing, Lassonde, a goalie at Providence College in the early ‘80s, is noted for his work with goaltenders. Pretty much every summer he can be found working with goaltenders at USA Hockey Select Festivals.

Re: UNH Off Season Thread 2011

Best of luck to Coach Lassonde. His body of work at UNH was exceptional. A quality goaltending coach is a critical element to a winning Division 1 team (just ask the Maine fans).
Wonder if it's too late for Mike Ayers to back out of his new position with the National Team Development Program?

Time for speculation about Coach Lassonde's replacement to begin.
How about Chris Economou, goalie coach for the Waterloo Black Hawks, who works with Matt DiGirolamo and Ty Conklin?
