I think that Souza will at the least get an additional year extension through the 2024/25 season when a decision will be made in spring 2025 about a long-term extension or termination, so six years total, like tenure-track faculty get. Of course, tenure-track faculty denied tenure in their sixth year are given a seventh year, but usually the faculty member has already found a new position. The extra “severance-like” year obviously would not work for coaches.
That sounds like something they could very well be considering. BTW PSU is playing in their MASCAC finals tonight am streaming that plus looking in on other games on espn+ Come on Maine, pick itup will ya![]()
So it looks like either Maine or Providence for the Mildcats [an old pinhead saying before moderators on here] I think i'd rather see Providence than Maine.
Both tanking. They’d rather play us than UVM ;-)So it looks like either Maine or Providence for the Mildcats [an old pinhead saying before moderators on here] I think i'd rather see Providence than Maine.
Alfond I think. The tie breaking procedures with 3 on 3 OT and SO wins are reason enough to have ties.Onto Schneider...

I just back spaced and retyped because the standings page changed. I think HEA is having trouble figuring out their own tie breaking procedure lolNESN team at end on NU-UML game said Alfond, too, but CHN says Schneider.
Which is where my brain first went until I read the first line of the tie breaking procedures: “Three-on-three overtime and shootout results will only be considered when breaking ties between two teams.”NESN team at end on NU-UML game said Alfond, too, but CHN says Schneider. And, JimF on Hockey East thread says Maine breaks tie over PC in head to head.
More or less agree. Playing Providence in the on site rounds is getting old. Playing the ME rival would be more compelling. Also, a yearly personal challenge is to figure out tie breakers before HEA posts them on the standings page. This year I failed. Miserably. The tension is so thick you can cut it with a ... aahhhh ... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz .........

Awww don't feel too badly about that Darius...I only knew the story because I relied on other people who had figured it out for me haha and also Twitter was a help. I guess I'm thinking it really doesn't matter a ton who we play; although agree Maine would have been more intriguing given the rivalry like you point out. This season we went 1-1-1 with the Friars and who knows how this one will go. My gut on it is it's a one and done for the 'Cats, putting to bed a long season of more downs than ups I guess. We'll see.
I think it would be fun to pick the HE winner going forward here. I'm thinking a Yukon/BU final (depending on how the seeding goes of course). Maybe some 'dark horse' bwahaha rises up through the ashes you never know. Watching UMass this weekend they could be first round spoilers?
Maine even one-upping Mike Souza's recruiting pitch that "you'll meet your future wife here"

Wildcats v Friar playoff history from the HE website:
No. 7 Providence (14-13-7/9-9-6 HE) will welcome No. 10 New Hampshire (11-20-3/6-15-3 HE) on Wednesday night. UNH holds a 14-7-0 mark over the Friars in Hockey East Tournament play, although the two have not met since 2015. During the 2022-23 season, they skated to a 1-1-1 mark, with Providence holding an edge with a shootout victory on Oct. 28. The Wildcats boast a record of 7-3-2 since the calendar flipped to 2023, including a six-game unbeaten streak in February. The Friars have never lost an Opening Round game in tournament history (3-0). Bwahaha...wouldn't it be fun to change that history? Hey, a girl can dream!?!
