UNH Men’s Hockey 22-23: the start of something new, or more of the same?

Let's see how this week's game(s) turn out for Hockey. If we don't see Boston (again), hopefully the new AD understands that the Groundhog Day existence of Hockey needs someone else's attention to turn things around. There is an opportunity ... BC is no longer Coach York, BU is no longer Coach Parker, and UMass Amherst is no longer Coach Barr's recruiting beneficiary. UMaine is going to be a huge factor going forward, and if UNH does not answer soon AND loudly, then it's going to be another painful decade of mediocrity looking up at the Black Bears. Getting back to the top tier of HEA would be magic. So it's time to make some magic happen, starting now ...
I'm not convinced we'll see those days again, at least not any time soon.
Frankly, I'd settle for mid-table (to borrow a soccer term, to fit with your other recent posts) at this point; which would still require nearly doubling this season's points total.

Final: UML 75 UNH 64. Close til the end! Now they (UNH) have something to build on; taking a step this season. Good for them! Might just have to watch some bouncy ball games next season! Is there a forum for that hahaha :)

Agreed. How many years ago were our last successes in squeak ball? Seems like a long time ago, like ice hockey.

Hope that the new AD does not see those attendance figures at the Whitt this season, which could doom any hope for management change.

Make no mistake, though ... for fans of college hockey, this promotion/relegation scheme would be a great development. The idea of watching Luce shedding real tears in front of 500 fans at his Ice Palace or whatever, while Merrimack staves off relegation, as Luce contemplates a future of trips to Buffalo and Erie and West Point ... delicious!!!

UNH belongs in the AHA. They are JV D1 in all other sports, hockey should follow suit. UConn, HE's newest member, is hosting another play-off game and one win away from the garden again. Also, their new arena is 100x's better than that dump in Durham. Keep focusing on the small capacity, UConn will keep attracting the best players with the best training facilities in the league. It's a great time to be a UConn sports fan!!!!

Interesting..discovered I do have an account there. Reading the posts (none too recent but early season convo about the Souza "experiment") about Hoops had forgotten UNH lost alot of players to the portal and had to pretty much rebuild a team for this season. I remember reading about that. WEIT I guess the portal is either a God send or a bust. Working quite well for MC hockey..

Well its game day for our hockey 'Cats...don't even dare make a prediction but can say PC knows their only shot at the NCAA is to win HE so they have alot to play for...Their second half hasnt been great. Kind of a toss up! But here goes anyway:

PC 3 UNH 1

But maybe it could be like this...

If you can't gain a point in a two-game weekend in Durham, how far do you really think your team is going?

Looks like the Wildcats are the winners of the 2022-2023 Charlie Holt #HockeyEastAward for Team Sportsmanship. I suppose that's a good thing but I think there are 11 people affiliated with Hockey East that care about this meaningless award (the ADs) and I hope it isn't used to strengthen Snoozas case to stick around one more year.

Edit: Admittedly I didn't even look up what the criteria for this award. In case anyone is interested "This award is given to the team which receives the lowest average penalty minutes per game over the course of regular season Hockey East play"

Has UConn ever won this award? Only asking because you could make an argument that Souza has won more in his UNH tenure than UConn has with Cavanaugh ;-) ;)

Tonight...the 2022-2023 UNH Wildcats team will be taken out back and put out of its misery.

Souza can't possibly keep his job can he? Sure they had a nice little run in the 2023 portion - but 10th place is 10th place. Unacceptable.

Reserving comment for the next 1-2 games. My prediction says what I think of the situation we've found ourselves in.

Carfagna and Cy Leclerc seem an omission.

Pro Ambitions All-Rookie Team

D: Lane Hutson, Boston University *
D: Hunter McDonald, Northeastern
F: Kenny Connors, Massachusetts
F: Cutter Gauthier, Boston College *
F: Ryan Greene, Boston University
F: Cam Lund, Northeastern
F: Matthew Wood, UConn *
* denotes unanimous selection

I thought we might see Leclerc here too but his numbers don't compare to the rest of the F selections. Hutson had 40+ points and Hunter McDonald won Hockey East Best Defensive Defenseman award so real stiff blue line competition

This team isn't getting very far with 1 of the 4 forwards doing his best while hanging in his own crease.... Don't you need a goalie by default?

I might take Carfagna, Leclerc and any other 3 rookie skaters that played more than 20 games this year and have a goalie on my team and win against this group of 6.

sorry couldn't help myself...
