UNH Hockey 2023-2024 Season Thread - End Of The Cellar-Dweller Era??

I thought that Muszelik looked fine in the two games that I watched on NESN, with a thank you to Mr. Crossbar on one potential GWG late in the game last night.

Not missing Fessenden so much now, but still stings that he left UNH for Canisius, although perhaps he was not offered any schollie money for a fifth year in Durham.

I don''t think he has looked good in any appearance. Some of this is on the D in front but if you watch Hellesen he is much more square to everyshot. Fess was awful and I believe there is more to him leaving than is known.

For UNH to win today, they need to play tight D. Eliminate odd man rushes and hope for a 2-1 type of game. They need to stay out of the box (play 2 not 19), dump the puck in, forecheck, and win the dirty battle down low. If not, then this is a 6-1 game.

From the BC thread:

"Unless my math is wrong, and this seems pretty simple so I hope not, but it seems like BC's magic number is 5 for the #1 seed in the league and a RS co-championship (at minimum) and a magic number of 6 for outright HE RS championship."

Not that the Eagles seem to be needing motivation lately or anything.

LETS GO IT'S GAMEDAY!!! Look its most likely that we're going to get smoked. But we have a great chance of pulling off the impossible.

How fitting is it that tonight's theme is star wars night. The evil empire is coming to town. It's too bad Darth Sidious (Jerry York) isn't there like the old days, but regardless the energy has got to be there. If Luke Skywalker blew up the Death Star, then we absolutely can win tonight. I agree with Norbert, we have to play smart and stay out of the box, penalties is what killed us last time we played BC. But I believe seeing BC the first time we now know who we're up against. We don't need to sweep, but take at least 1 this weekend. GO CATS!

As Yoda said...do or do not...there is NO TRY!

Go 'Catttsssss!!

I typically look forward to playing BC because regardless of the outcome it is fun to watch. Both teams like to skate, very little if any clutching, grabbing and clogging. This weekend is different. The skill/speed differential means that the first bold will happen only if the 'cats do the second bold. Trying to skate with BC will result in hooking, etc. calls.

Go 'cats. Beat BC. Sieve!

Could not agree more Darius. My very favorite team to play, even though it is our toughest opponent. Woke up feeling a one goal victory for night. But we’re is my man Conner Sweeney? Injury? Does the foreshadow underplaying a scrappy forth line?
Save your gas money tomorrow, major retribution! And poor Moose will probably get the start.

Looking back at the box score from the 6-1 loss.
- we outshot BC
- took 9 penalties (BC scored 4 power play goals)

Pretty simple, stay out of the box!

Defense is going to have their hands full with Cutter Gauthier (29 goals) and Ryan Leonard (23 goals)

As much as I root against them, pay attention when that line is on the ice. Very special.

edit: the Freshman line is Gabe Perreault, Will Smith and Ryan Leonard with 55 goals, 91 assists and 146 points. BC thread is reporting Perreault is not playing tonight. Gauthier is a Sophomore with 29, 19, 48 in 31 GP. 11 Freshman on the team including goal keeper Fowler who is statistically top 10 nationally.

Right? It is not an accident. They played on the same line in the USHL, on the USA National Development team and on this year's gold medal winning World Junior team. Ridiculous.

Like the energy so far, getting out of the defensive zone pretty good as well. Quickly answering BC’s first goal was big.
