UNH Hockey 2023-2024 Season Thread - End Of The Cellar-Dweller Era??

Now that Hellsten’s GAA has dropped to 2.00 (went from 2nd to 6th) and SV% has dropped to 0.910 (went from 9th to 29th, tie), will MS7 start Muse against Mac?

It’s hard to believe Hellsten gives up more goals to BU than he did to Dartmouth and Princeton. AND he has a worse save percentage playing BU…those seem like cherry picked stats

chuck, can you confirm?

Will defend Danny until Im blue in the face on that one - it was a cheap penalty, and the image in the associated article below shows one that went uncalled against him earlier in OT...

You can't ignore that call right in front of the goal and then call one against UNH at the blue line. That was garbage officiating.

Great picture, but I can only meet you part way. . It Was a cheap call and inconsistent. But it also was interference and unnecessary. Danny went out of his way to stick his butt into that guy.

Sounds like you are the one doing the cherry picking, KIA. :-)

if each goalie gets a start against Mac within the next eight days, that may provide a better comparison for this point in the season.

Hellsten far from his best last night, but he’d have to look like that a few more times before I’d consider playing Muze.
Apparently irrelevant tonight anyway.

No Fitzy No Conmy...Winters out as well.

Sounds like Hellsten was wobbed of his shut out? Addition by subtraction with Fitzgerald in the stands?

Box score suggests that Cronin’s third line was the key tonight; good for them.

UNH remains 16th in PWR, but no longer tied. Now tied with UMass-Flagship for 6th in HEA with 22 points and 14 games each. Luce moved his Fuskies up to 5th with 23 points by winning 2-1 over PC, which could muster only goal from a 5-min major PP, getting their goal near the end of a 5 on 3 from a minor added to the major. However, Cats still have three games in hand over Yukon, as they also have over NU, which remains at 20 points.

Have to say haven’t had a favorite player in a long time but that has changed. Love the way Lavins plays he seems to be the heart behind the team

Goal with less than 3 seconds left. Fitzy out. Probably tripped on his skate laces, got a 2 min penalty, and gave up a 2 on 1. Babo needs to be the 6th guy for the rest of the year. Solid. Will not make a rush but also won't make the wrong move. This is what you want from that spot.

Good to see Cronin once again being a factor on this team, after a solid frosh season, followed by an extended year-plus of "whatever happened to the Cronin kid?" If there is a difference with this year's team, it's that there has been some quality depth, and competition for time on the 3rd pairing and bottom six forwards. Things can go sideways pretty quickly when you either lack quality depth, or have just enough where there isn't competition for time at the bottom of the line sheet. When those guys don't have to compete and develop to earn their time, sometimes bad habits can set in, or sometimes they can get a little lazy and go through the motions a bit.

If you haven't taken the time to read the earlier link provided by boblav1 on 2024 AHL Hall of Famer, UNH's Gordie Clark (of C-H-C fame), set aside 5 minutes and do it now. Great story of a guy who worked hard for everything he got, turned into a hockey lifer, and was arguably the Darren Haydar of his time. Congrats Gordie - you earned it.
