UNH Hockey 2023-2024 Season Thread - End Of The Cellar-Dweller Era??

Back to do a little morning-after clean-up duty. Kudos to 'Ref, who seems to be the "adult in the room" when it came to dealing with the so-called "cesspool" of me posting (very briefly) about a political event at The Whitt a day in advance ...

UNH back up to 11th in PWR, in an attempt to get this thread out of Chuck’s cesspool.

One brief post, with no editorial content. Unless you are counting my clarification of your (first) exaggerated post in opposition, citing our different standards to what constitutes an actual "crowd". BTW - the pissant kid from Maine is your side's "cesspool", not mine. He's apparently a triggered little snowflake, as you'll note from his eloquent post directed at me in the UMaine thread. Clever (not) ... now, on to your second exaggeration in posts relative to the event in the last 24 hours ...

Your would-be dictator could not even sell out the Whitt, speaking of pathetic. What a loser!

First, there was no "sell" involved - it was free admission, to as many folks as the Town would allow into the arena. That turned out to be around 5,000 - give or take - which is mentioned in several stories of the event. Now, on to the most relevant piece ... the set-up inside the arena, which had the stage at the far end of the arena, opposite the main entrance at the Hamel/Snively end of the "Key Complex", cut out all of the seating at that end of the arena - behind the goal, and along the wings, roughly up to the blue line. That was the "take" - the "give" was, there was (limited) seating on the stage - the kind you seem to see at most political rallies these days - and some floor seating. But the close end of the arena floor was eaten up by the media platform, which means floor seating was pretty much limited to the neutral zone of the arena footprint. And the usual end zone seats behind media platform were also rendered useless (or as they used to say with the old Boston Garden - "obstructed view").

So on the balance of things, with capacity reduced below full hockey seating, it was pretty much a sell out, Snives. I don't know where you're getting your info, but since I suspected your side might try to make a "thing" about the issue, I did ask a couple of the security folks what their impression was as far as turnout, just a few moments before the President took the stage at 2:05 p.m. They told me they were treating it as "standing room only" at the end. I guess maybe the question I should have asked then was whether anyone was turned away from access to the building (I suspect no), but to the naked eye, 5,000 or so people in the reduced capacity configuration WAS pretty much a "sell out".

I would effort to make a comparison as to how many attendees your President would attract to this venue, but he seems to avoid public speaking as a matter of personal principle. The "dictator" thing is just below you, though. Remember this one???

2024 is shaping up to be a shitshow of epic proportions.

How did UNH get to 11th?

As Darius noted, teams that we have not played can affect our PWR even when we do not play, as some of the AHA teams that have played games this weekend have played games earlier in the season with teams in the top 12 of the PWR. Soon after I posted that we had moved up to 11th, another score or two that came in must have had an impact on PWR, as W Michigan moved up 2 PWR points into a tie with us. But, overall, I think that it is really cool that we are even in the top 12 PWR, which I never would have expected at the beginning of this season.

You know what they say about stranger things happening bwahahaha!!!

He looked like he had a decent first shift! Go Angus! Lol well one thing, he and Tim Stutzle finally get to be teammates, ha!

Angus finished with 16 shifts and 10:11 minutes ice time, while Tim Stutzle had 25 shifts and 20:42 minutes.

And a couple late games bounced UNH back up to 11th all alone, 2 PWR points in front of W Michigan and Minnesota.

I cant believe for a second that Angie Dickinson is almost 101 yo. Do you ? :-)

Well, if turning 92 a couple of months ago is "almost 101" then yeah, I can't believe it, either.

Angie Dickinson - Turner Classic Movies (tcm.com)

To our recent Ottawa Senators fans ... interesting times in the Canadian Capital, as they fired their head coach today.

It'll be interesting to see if Crookshank is in the "right place/right time" and sticks, or is just up for a brief Poturalski/Haydar cameo before going back to Belleville. He just turned 24 so he's gotta treat this opportunity like it might be his only shot at things ... because often, for guys like him, it does turn out to be one and out.

Good luck Angus (even though I hate the Sens!)!

Speaking about UNH alums in the NHL, always a modest number, especially compared with BC and BU, TvR (now with 555 NHL games played, GP) has leapfrogged Jaime Hislop into 7th place in NHL/WHA GP (345+206). Brett Pesce remains in 6th place with 580 GP. In 4th and 5th place are Steve Leach (702 GP) and Bob Gould (697 GP), with their rankings safe at least until the year after next.

Any chance the Liam Devlin returns soon??? He is exactly what we need right now, one more legitimate scoring threat.

Wouldn't surprise me if he is back for the games coming up...but also wouldn't surprise me if they wait until the Princeton series...Hope he plays in the
Sacred Heart game as we will be in attendance!

Ps Congrats to Angus "Crooker" Crookshank who scored his first NHL goal in a losing effort v the Coyotes (Sens blew a 3 point lead..)
